Find Ancestors

I now have death certificate for Henry Bowles, my great grandfather. The informant was his daughter Annie and he was living at her home address Shirley Southampton. So that puts me no further forward trying to find death of Sarah

That's why I wanted to try to find the house in 1901to see if it gave any more clues

That 1911 census in Burnley doesn't ring true

..........the woman was completely on her own.......and claimed, at the age of 48, to have been married for 3 years, during which time, she had produced 3 children.....still alive. So - where were they?

How many children did Sarah have with Henry? Was it three?

That 1911 census you found for Sarah Simmonds - the householder although not present signed as L Wilkinson, address Forest House, the enumerator's summary shows it as Forest View - and Forest Villa was the nearest I could find in 1901. It was just a long shot to see if there was a Mr Simmonds, maybe a servant/butler.

If you don't have the death cert, how do you know the grave is for the right man?

Wonder if someone could do an address search in 1901 - Forest Villa, Nelson, Lancs - it's on FMP under "other establishments". According to 1911 census the householder was Mr Wilkinson (not present)

So you have found the grave, but how are you sure this is for your great grandfather?

Henry Bowles buried 23/10/1929 age 71 years, found grave Hollybrook Cemetery, in 2009.
I have not been able to find a remarriage for Sarah. By 1911 her 3 children including my grandmother were married and lived elsewhere. Sarah not being on a cencus with them.
My grandmother Florence died 1924, very young. I have a photo of her with Sarah I would think taken about 1910, but thats only a guess.

Strange one Reggie, married 3 years & 3 children born & still alive. It's a possibility but I can't see a Simmonds/Bowles marriage.

As you say, other 2 can be ruled out they are on 1901 - but the only other Sarah born Chilbolton is Bowles?? Very odd

How sure are you that Henry died in 1929, as you don't have the death cert?

The first one seems odd..............check the image - see what you think.

The other two can be discounted completely

Henry Bowles was not on 1901 or 1911 cencus, as probably at sea. I have checked and trawled all modes of research. I have been to Winchester records office and Southampton library. I do not have Henry's death certificate so I might send for that to see if it will help.
I have been trying for years now so I would like to try and resolve this.
