Derek

You are not too much of a pain compared to some that ask for help.

Come back when you get some more info such as the occupation of Arthur from the marriage cert as that will help rule out the possible 1891 posting

Also some details from the cert about Alice such as name of father and his occupation.

Any extra info you can give will be useful

This is from Yorkshire BMD. I would interpret that as an Arthur R and Alice marrying in St Thomas, York.

THOMAS Alice WILSON Arthur R St Thomas, York York STHO/3/9

I'm not seeing a marriage for them on the Stockton Roots site.

Will need to read the thread again re 1891 query

The parents for Alice and for Arthur Russel do look ok BUT thee main question remain:-
where was Arthur Russel Wilson on 5 April 1891 and when did he pop his clogs?
The answer may well be bound up in where the marriage was-near York or in Stockton. My data on this was from my friend. Around that time the area in which Stockton is, crossed the tees, and some references give County confusingly as 'Durham and county of north Yorkshire'.
Guess I am going to have to do a bit more clarifying myself and perhaps return later. Thanks for your help folks, hope that I have not been too much of a pain.

So was the 1891 posted for his parents right or wrong

What about the information posted on Alice Thomas is that right or wrong.

Why have you said the marriage took place at Stockton on Tees when it appears to have been registered in York ?

Derek Report 17 Sep 2013 16:35

Apologies folks and many thanks for your very prompt (unexpectedly so) responses.
Re Prickly Holly: I agree that there are many Arthur Wilsons born around and living around the same area; even more just outside Tees area. Sadly no Arthur R. or Arthur Russel Wilson.
For all helpers-his wife's details are from Parish Records. Because he spent all his traceable time in Darlington/Stockton (including Norton) I have not searched in Yorkshire. My last certain placement of him is as a father on his son's wedding certificate at St Thomas, Stockton in 1921. His son married a lass from Stockton and the pub in which Arthur R worked in 1911 was (still exists) in Stockton - hence the assumption.

I have searched GR, Ancestry, Durham Archives, TeesValley, Family Search and Gravestone Photographic Resource (which had all Stockton area headstones up to about 1970). Hence my plea for help. It is beginning to look like the 1891 was missed because of transit and death may have been misplaced due to vestry fire or some such accident. But any other ideas are still most welcome.

I am actually searching on behalf of a genealogy friend, to whom I am linked via a distant relative of my wife.
