Anyone know how good Ausralian records are?

I may have hit gold with a member of my family that I have been trying to find but he might have emigrated to Australia.

I checked online using a search on another site and found who I believe is my ancestor, its all screaming its correct at me, but don't know where to turn.

John Thomson was born 14/05/1885 in Larkhall. His mum was Mary Scott and Father was George Thomson, John married Jane Orr in 1913. Jane died in 1953 in Larkhall, but I found an entry in Victoria, Australia for a John Thomson with the mother and father given above, dying in 1959.

Its possible he emigrated to be with a son or daughter but have no idea if they had children yet.

Anyone suggest anything as to determine if this is the person I am looking for?

Do you have Jane's death registration please? Was she "widow of" or "married to" John at the time of her death? Who was the informant?

John Report 18 Sep 2013 22:12

Jane died 12/04/1953 in Larkhall in Scotland, she was "married to" John and John was the informant

Not seeing an emigration record after Jane's death.

Not seeing the death in Victoria in 1959 on Ancestry either.

Could be that you need to find out if he had children and if any of them emigrated - or even any of his siblings?

If you buy the death certificate, as long as the informant knew the details, it should have his wife, parents and children's' names and possibly where he was born.
