This is a bit of a long shot. Common name, I know.

Could someone with a sub to FMP see if there is a baptism for William Henry Davis/Davies born 1855-1859. According to census record, he is born either in Brecon(shire), Wales or Herefordshire, England. According to his marriage cert, his father is William, a Tailor.

Also a check of the 1861 census for Brecon or Herefordshire to see if an entry could be found for William Davis/Davies the father as a Tailor. I have no other info.

William jnr married in Birmingham in 1880 to Lucy Morris and I have all subsequent info.

Thank you in advance.

As a general rule of thumb.....Davies is Welsh.......Davis is English.

Before anyone shouts me down.................it isn't 'carved in stone'

Hi Andy,

I'm probably asking the obvious as I know you're well versed in this, but have you tracked him through subsequent census to see if any relatives turned up? What about the witnesses to the wedding -any clues there?

Andrew

Andrew Report 20 Sep 2013 23:26

Yes, checked all the following census records. Witnesses no help. I think this one will be a dead end with the common name and no definite place or date of birth.

Many thanks to everyone for their assistance. Much appreciated.

Andy
