Hi, could someone please look up William W Ruopp in the 1891 census in Pontypridd... think this could be my William Wallace Knapp.. looking to trace him back before 1891 any info helpful, birth place, occ etc Thanks

Nicola

Nicola Report 18 Nov 2013 21:39

So Charlotte Rees Married John Thomas Pleasance had 2 kids, Charlotte, 1890 and Daisy Emma, 1996. John Thomas then up and left and started new life with Elizabeth ??. Meanwhile Charlotte had twins Fred and William in 1900,Father William Wallace Knapp, and then had Albert Pleasance in 1906, Shoreditch. All this time claiming she was a widow??
I know guess work is rarely right when it comes to family history, so would love to know if anyone with more knowledge than me (thats all the kind people that have helped) thinks I maybe right in my thinking..

Thanks all for your help especially Choccy, finding Pleasance's in the same house as my Knapp Birth, confirms they are the same family..This is driving me mad..I thought there would be a clear date for the change of name, but know I have Pleasance's ancestor's prior to my Knapp Birth's in 1900!!

don't know if any of these postings are relevant, but they may be!

In 1901 looks like Thomas Pleasance was with a 'new' family and possibly Charlotte wasn't actually a widow. This Thomas Pleasance born the same year in Bethnal Green with the same occupation

I need help again!!
To all those who have helped with my research on my Pleasance/Knapp family so far. I have received the Birth cert of Frederick Robert Knapp,
details are: Frederick Robert Knapp, Born 14th April 1900 at 2.10am, 71 Warley Street, Bethnal Green. Father: William Wallace Knapp. Mother: Charlotte Knapp formerly Rees of 71 Warley Street, Bethnal Green.
To recap Frederick Robert Knapp was married in March 1925 as Frederick Robert Pleasance, marriage cert says father was Albert Pleasance. I know this is the same person for sure!! but can't connect them because of the name change..
I have found a Charlotte Rees to John T Pleasance in 1887. Help please...

Nicola - about that address.......

You could try contacting the local library closest to that address and see if they would be willing to do an electoral roll look up for the year in question and perhaps a year either side?

Thankyou Dea for the search it was a long shot I know, but as this address was mentioned by the Pleasance decendants, I thought it was worth a look to see if any Pleasance or Knapp's were living there in 1911. Another dead end but thanks for looking anyway.
Kind regards Nicky

Waiting for birth cert for Frederick Robert Knapp to arrive..born Jun 1900 Bethnal Green. Still can find no trace of him in 1901 or 1911 census with either Knapp or Pleasance surname..Father Albert Pleasance, Occ:Carpenter, living in Shoreditch and died before 1925, I can find no trace of either..Have searched the surname Knapp for Albert, with no results. so frustrating...Thanks Chris Ho for the info on Albert Pleasance in Cambridge, but not sure this is the Albert I'm looking for..I know it is possible for whole families to be missed off the 1911 census as my own Batten family were. I thought I was just very unlucky. Can anyone do a street search for 46 Ely Place Shoreditch in the 1911 census?

Albert F Pleasance who died in 1922 seems the likely father, Frederick was born Frederick Robert Knapp in 1900. when did the Pleasance name come in to use? waiting for the birth cert for Fred and hoping he's father's name was Albert F Knapp? Where I go after that??? How can I confirm anything with a name change?

I believe we have lost the 'Canada connection' now Patchem as they were the family of the other Frederick Pleasance - William Charles and Sarah......

patchem

patchem Report 3 Nov 2013 08:51

If the information about the father is accurate, he must die between 1899 and 1925, so one of these:

Deaths Jun 1910
PLEASANCE Albert W 57 Cambridge 3b 257
Deaths Jun 1922
PLEASANCE Albert F 63 Islington 1b 282

Cannot see obvious birth for Albert F Pleasance - he could be calling himself Frank or Fred etc?.

However, if he died in Canada, then these deaths not useful.

Hi all, need your help again.
I received the marriage cert for Frederick Robert Pleasance and Beatrice Iles in March 1925, Shoreditch.
i was hoping it would show his father's name as Knapp ( as i know Fred was born Frederick Robert Knapp, 1900, Bethnal Green) but no.. details of cert are: Frederick Robert Pleasance, aged 24, Bachelor, Occ: Railway Porter, Address 46 Ely Place, Shoreditch. Father's name: Albert Pleasance (deceased) Occ: Carpenter. Bride Beatrice May Iles living at same address.
Can anyone advise me where I go from here??? I have ordered he's birth cert as Frederick Robert Knapp but can't find any related Pleasance's or Knapp's on census or BMD's.. Help Please

Awaiting Marriage cert for Frederick Robert Pleasance(previously Knapp) Born June 1900, Bethnal Green, and yes it will give some info on parents etc. But why can I find no trace of him in the 1901 or 1911 census? I am working on pay for view, but so far have found nothing remotely close to him to spend credits on.
I know I should just wait for the cert to arrive, but any help or advice in the meantime very welcome.

Nicola

Nicola Report 24 Oct 2013 00:19

The Marriage cert will not be arriving until the 30th Oct went for the cheaper £9.25 option, thinking there will be either a lot of blank spaces with the name change from Knapp to Pleasance, or the answer to many questions.
As always everyone has been a great help.

Nicky, have you looked at the baptisms posted on page 1 of your thread?

I'm afraid you really should buy the marriage certificate, there could be very useful clues on there.
