Civil Registration in Ireland started in 1864 so may have been just a bit too late for Catherine. As you say you would probably have to look at church records. However I do think it looks more likely that she was born in Clerkenwell and it's her father who was born in Ireland.

Thank you. Not aware of any link with name Powell or Paddington area - but I will keep these details safe just in case they fit in as there were several males named Sidney from 1920 onwards

Is it possible to access Irish birth records ? I am guessing that this is so early I would have to look at individual church records?

Could this be Catherine's death (with the name mis-spelt):-

Name: SABINE, Catherine
Registration district: Cardiff
County: Glamorganshire
Year of registration: 1946
Quarter of registration: Jul-Aug-Sep
Age at death: 83
Volume no: 8B
Page no: 121

Hopefully the informant on this certificate would be a family member which would prove or disprove whether this was "your" Catherine.

There were no penalties for not registering a birth until 1875 so for the period between 1837 when registration began and 1875 many births were simply not registered and if this is the case with Catherine then there won't be a birth certificate to find.

The census record above gives her birthplace as Clerkenwell an not Ireland.

The family definitely lived in Clerkenwell and Holborn. Her parents were John and (Ithink) Louisa). Slightly different spelling of names - but definately well worth pursuing. I need to get access to Irish records I think. Thanks for your help.

I have been searching in vain for months for the birth and death records of Catherine Craddock - later known by married name of Catherinae or Kate Sabini.

I have census (1891 / 1901 / 1911) and marriage cert from St Peters RC Church in Clerkenwell London. All list birth in 1864 or 1865 in Holborn London. Similar on any documentation relating to her children.

I believe her father - John or Joannis Craddock was born in London. However,I cannot find a birth certificate for Catherine. A cousin has also been researching the birth and has found an old family letter which says she was born in Wexford Ireland. However I have no idea how to access Irish records to prove this.

Catherines husband Andrew (aka Andreas) Sabini died in Cardiff in 1917. I am told that his widow remained in Cardiff and was buried there. However I am really struggling to find anything to support this. Any help would be very much appreciated.
