Mother's Name: Lucy Lamb

Born 4th April.....Greenwich Hospital

Something is written in brackets under Lucy's name but i can't make it out.

Under Samuel's name it reads......Scullery (Something) Mate.

It has Williams occupation as Warrant Officer.

I can understand William's occupation as being "Scullery Mate" but i don't understand the.........Warrant Officer!

Perhaps someone else will take a look and be able to decipher it!

Dea Report 7 Nov 2013 21:33

There is nothing in brackets beside Lucy Lamb - it says nurse to Do (meaning ditto) and it is a very flowery 'D' which may look like brackets - above person is cook to Infirmary therefore Lucy is 'Nurse to Infirmary' !

I can see no 'warrant officer's on the page ???

There are 'Mariners' mentioned (Ebenezer Lamb is one), or that's what they look like ??

I see no 'Scullery mates' ??

I've informed poster there is info on here

Dea

Dea Report 7 Nov 2013 22:11

Thank goodness for that - I thought my eyes were going funny !! ;-) :-D

I think it says 'Sculleryman Mate' ??

In the brackets under Lucy's name it says something like (memo Born 4th April) - You will see that the same thing has been added to the entries above and below with the childrens actual birth dates !

As to the Warrant Officer - is this some sort of Hospital Ship that they are on?????

It 'is' in Greenwich and there seem to be Mariners there as well so would a Warrant Officer be part of the Navy structure ??

The child below also has a Warrant Officer as a father !

Have to go now but will look further in the morning.

Christina(Lancashire)

Christina(Lancashire) Report 7 Nov 2013 22:27

William's occupation on Martha's baptism record looks like Pensioner.

A Greenwich pensioner was the Naval equivalent of a Chelsea pensioner, so was Scullery Mate the job he had in the hospital and Warrant Officer the rank he had achieved in the Navy?
