ArgyllGran Report 23 Dec 2013 22:33

Can you give us an idea of when they lived? Which century?
Any further details would help.

I'm not seeing any marriage, so either it's very recent, or they didn't marry.
Or else it's so long ago that there's no surviving record.

Like everyone else, I can't see a marriage for them. Catherine has been missed off this transcript - she is with her son Ellison and a widow. Not found a death for Henry though between 1901-1911:

Ellison Kerr
Age in 1911: 27
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1884
Relation to Head: Husband
Gender: Male
Birth Place: Sunderland, Durham, England
Civil Parish: Sunderland
County/Island: Durham
Country: England
Street Address: 14 Villiers St
Marital Status: Married
Occupation: Dealer General
Registration District: Sunderland
Registration District Number: 555
Sub-registration District: Sunderland East
ED, institution, or vessel: 15
Piece: 30196
Household Members: Name Age
Ellison Kerr 27
Genevieve Kerr 20
Ellison Kerr 10/12

The 1891 census has been badly transcribed, but Henry was not with Catherine, John, Frank & Ellison - although she stated married, so he must have been away on night of census. She was transcribed as Mark on Ancestry as they have combined 2 households in error.

Not sure that death is right Chris, I think it ties into this probate record:

Henry Kerr
Probate Date: 22 Feb 1907
Death Date: 4 Feb 1907
Death Place: Hartlepool, Durham, England
Registry: Durham, England

Henry Kerr, of Hartlepool. Probate to Annie Pilcher (wife of George Pilcher) - £31 4s. But they didn't appear to have a daughter Annie, and they weren' t living in Hartlepool.

I wondered about this death - although the age is about 10 years out??

Deaths Jun 1904 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

KERR Henry 63 S. Shields 10a 475

Parts of Sunderland came under South Shields until 1928.

ADDED: although none of this is helping in the original question to find their marriage!

MarieCeleste Report 24 Dec 2013 14:29

I think this is Henry in 1861 on FMP (occupation on image is Butcher) - it says he's married, but who to? Catherine is still with her parents.

KERR, Henry Head Married M 27 1834 ... London, Middlesex

Piece: 3775 Folio: 46 Page: 25
Registration District: Sunderland
Civil Parish: Bishopwearmouth
Municipal Borough: Sunderland

Address: 19, Sussex Street, Bishopwearmouth, Sunderland County: Durham

Ancestry have added a Mary Walsh and her children as his family but I think that may be an error and they've wrongly appended the household beneath.

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 24 Dec 2013 14:38

Henry appears to be in the North East in 1851:

MILLS, Robert Head Married M 23 1828 Butcher Alnwick, Northumberland
MILLS, Ann Wife Married F 27 1824 Hetton Le Hole, Durham
KERR, Henry Aprentice Unmarried M 18 1833 Butcher's Apprentice London, Middlesex

Piece: 2392 Folio: 333 Page: 58
Registration District: Easington

Address: Shotton Colliery County: Durham

Did he marry someone between 1851 & 1861 so wasn't free to marry Catherine?

Yes safc I'd agree U=Unmarried. I've just checked the image again on the 1861 and although it's not clear I think I would tend to go more for unmarried. (I can see, though, how the transcription on FMP could have picked it up as married).

Well found.
