it got posted on the separate thread and Stuart reposted it here on page 2

'For those of you that help with my first request I have now got the marriage cert for Reginald Gordon McCann and Jean Rix 24 Sept 1926
> Jean Rix was 18 years old and Reginald McCann was 23 years old .
> Jeans father was Frederick James Rix . I am still looking for a birth for Jean still no luck the only thing I found is a Jane Rix born 1911 with father Fred mother sarah but this would make Jean 16 not 18 .'

and as I recall no one was able to replicate the 'Jane Rix born 1911 with father Fred mother sarah'.

There was just obviously some invention going on

there are only 5 births for the name Frederick James Rix

1874 Wisbeach
1886 Norwich
1891 Mitford
1898 S Shields

The last one can be ruled out and the second-last one is unlikely for a child born c1908

There is one marriage for the name (pre-1911), 1898 Wandsworth

1891 Mitford probably married as Frederick J in 1912 in Mitford

So the name Frederick James Rix could be any one of the usual suspects: a stepfather, a combination of stepfather's given names and mother's surname if born to mother before marriage, the name of her real father but she was not registered with his surname ...

I think the only chance of tracing Jean Rix would be to get her marriage certificate. We would then know who, if anyone she named as her father.

JoonieCloonie Report 30 Jan 2014 18:11

So ... that Arthur is ruled out ... :-)

... but are you still hoping to find info about the Jean Rix who married 'your' Reginald McCann?

Just thought I'd rule out another one that hadn't been mentioned here

Births Mar 1907
Rix Jennie Tynemouth 10b 337

Deaths Mar 1925
Rix Jenny 18 Tynemouth 10b 402

Hi All , Got the marriage cert today for Arthur McCann 1947 his father was William George McCann and Arthur was age 22 and a Sgt in the R.A.S.C.

My apologies Pamela. I was confusing James Arnold McCann with the other James McCann born the same year and living in Liverpool.

Let us know please how you get on with the certificates.

At the moment, I can't see how the Arthur who married abroad connects to your family but I hope I am wrong and you haven't spent money on a certificate unrelated to your family. Even if it is, at least you will know one way or the other.

Not sure why waiting for the certs has prevented you from responding on here.........BUT..........glad that you have realised that you needed to get them - let us know what they say when they arrive

Although, in fact, only the marriage cert is really needed at this juncture..............

Pamela Report 22 Jan 2014 11:05

I have sent for the death cert for Arthur in 1928 and the marriage cert for Arthur 1948 so I expect them in the next week or so ..The name Edward McCann is new to me ,the brothers and sisters I found for my James Arnold McCann are William John, Eleanor, and Sarah,
So im sorry if my replys are not as fast as you all would like but I cant only go as fast as the GRO send out the certs to me and as some of you may know it can take up to 3weeks to get certs :-). so will let you all know when I get them

Pamela, it would help if you told us how you know that the Arthur who married Georgina was born in West Derby in 1928. At present there is nothing obvious linking that Arthur to Reginald.

I assume that you have elimated the possiility that Arthur may have been decsended from James Arnold McCann's brother Edward (who had a son Arthur)?

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 19 Jan 2014 23:29

births to match the deaths ?

Births Dec 1879
Benbow Sarah W. Derby 8b 609

Births Dec 1886 ?
Rix Frederick James Norwich 4b 135

in 1911 that Frederick is married to Florence living in Bethnal Green

Fred who married Sarah Benbow used no middle initial

and Fred who died 1955 was born 1886 while Sarah who died 1925 was born 1879

and 1913 was rather late for her to be marrying ...
and she does not seem to be in the 1911 census as Sarah Benbow ...

All we know for apparent fact is that Pamela's husband is related to the Reginald McCann who married Jean Rix

but as far as

'Arther McCann he was born in Liverpool in 1928 parents were Reginald McCann and Jean Rix'

the facts seem to be that -that- Arthur McCann died in infancy

so unless and until there is some evidence that the Arthur McCann who married in Salonica was a child of those parents ... or at least what Pamela's reason is for believing that he was ... there may not be a lot of point in trying to identify Jean Rix at least as the search relates to the Arthur McCann who married in Salonica

as Reggie said while I was off doing something else for a half hour in the middle of composing this message
:-D

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 19 Jan 2014 22:58

The child born to Mccann/Rix almost certainly died in infancy, but Pamela seems unwilling to acknowledge the possibility...............

Until there is confirmation of the father's name for the man who married in 1948, all searching is a waste of time and effort

"Jane Rix born 1911 with father Fred mother sarah but this would make Jean 16 not 18"

no such birth

and no such person in the 1911 census, just in case

Janet M Rix 1911 Yarmouth, married in Yarmouth 1931
Jane Ellen Rix 1906 South Shields, married in South Shields 1926

Pamela couldn't you answer questions ?

(edit - the Frederick Rix and Sarah Benbow 1913 marriage posted earlier, the Frederick and Sarah Rix deaths now posted after this message - but where does the idea that they had a daughter Jane 1911 come from ?? so many questions .........)

I actually think the name is most likely

THEOHARIS

it's Greek.

familysearch for instance finds one THEOHARIE family in a US census and two immigration records ... but 1000+ results for THEOHARIS.

... although the GRO index shows births in England for the name THEOHARI as well as THEOHARIS (and Theoharous)

the question still is

how do you know that Reginald Gordon McCann and Jean Rix were the parents of the Arthur McCann who married in Salonica in 1948 ??

( I had thought it was the McCann-Theoharie marriage certificate that was coming ... )

the other thing I wondered about is the name Georgina Theohrie ... I don't find 'Theohrie' as a name anywhere ever ... was this a typo ?

knowing who she was could possibly help find something about the couple

not to mention that there was never any answer about how the names of Arthur's parents and his birth details were known

stilll waiting for the marriage certificate I guess :-)

if it is the Arthur who married Georgina in Salonica in 1948 who is actually the person of interest, that will have answers

if it is the child of Reginald McCann and Jeane Rix who is the person of interest, he died shortly after birth and shortly before his mother's death ...
