Did you look for possible children on the Army index?

Who registered the deaths of Arthur's parents?

Did he attend either of their funerals?

You won't find records of travel within Europe............................

rootgatherer Report 6 Jan 2014 12:20

If you are looking for descendants of Reginald and Jean, you may well have wasted your money as it looks, at the moment, that their only child did not reach adulthood.

Can you say how you got back to Arthur please?

Pamela

Pamela Report 6 Jan 2014 12:54

Arthur McCann is a 2nd cousin to my husband Reginald McCann is a brother to Isabella McCann my husbands gran there are to more brothers John Arnold McCann who died in London 1984 and George Robert McCann who went to Australia .I have looked for a birth for Jean Rix born abt 1909 with no luck so have sent for Reginald and jeans marriage cert and waiting for it to come

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 6 Jan 2014 13:12

I wondered about this possibly for Jean's birth if she was perhaps Mary Jane?

Births Jun 1911 RIX Mary J W.Derby 8b 371

The death that I posted above for Jean McCann, I thought was a possible if she had a complication when giving birth to the Arthur who seems to have been born and died in the March Quarter of the same year,

If you know for sure that Arthur was in the army, could he have been the son of one of Reginald's brothers and mmn not Rix?

I suggest that you purchase the death cert for the child..............to save looking any further for someone who didn't apparently survive.

I think his first wife must have been a widow just waiting for the cert to comferm this or not thanks again Pam,

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 9 Jan 2014 15:02

IF Reginald's second wife was a spinster, there is a possible birth for a daughter in 1944. Have you seen that please?

Let us know how you get on with the marriage certificate - just to clear up the birth of his first wife please.

Pamela

Pamela Report 9 Jan 2014 15:58

Hi Rootgatherer, I cant wait for this cert to come and I will let you know .
the more I think about it the first wife must be a widow as I cant find a birth for a jean rix . the only other thing I can think of that she was born in Scotland or Ireland '
thanks again Pam :-)

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 9 Jan 2014 17:07

Not sure that she would have been a widow Pamela. If the death in 1928 is her, then she married Reg when she was 17?

Just checked on Scotlandspeople - no births for a Jean (or forename variants) Rix. Not seeing an Irish birth either.

Let's hope the marriage cert. helps.

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 9 Jan 2014 19:25

keep in mind also that if a woman marries under her deceased husband's surname, her children's birth records will still show her own birth surname, not her first husband's.

So the mother's surname Rix indicates that this was her surname at birth, not by first marriage.

However, it could have been a stepfather's surname, and the marriage record would help with that.

There is no Jean Rix in the 1911 census ...

Pamela, in the post on your other thread, you say that you have found a Jean Rix b1911 with father Fred (as on the marriage cert you have also posted). Where have you found her?
