Thank you Kath

If they married in this country then the marriage would be in the normal BMD's. If she went abroad with him whilst he was in the army and they married abroad it would be in the British Nationals Armed Forces Marriages. You can find these on Findmypast.

Margee

I wish I had your faith in human nature........LOL!

Moira

.............you need to look for the 'death' of Lily's mother..............

Moira

Moira Report 15 Jan 2014 14:37

I wondered if they never married because she said when she (lily) was about 7 her mother died and the family wanted to take her off her father, so John got a barge to bring them to Sheffield from Birmingham. Lily never saw any of her extended family after that. wish we had got deeper into it at the time, Lily was a very secretive person
so didn't give a lot away

But Emma Buffery had an 8 month old son on the 1911 census. Surely she wasn't living with another man?

Gee

Gee Report 15 Jan 2014 14:36

Perhaps she was STILL commuting!

Good point....especially as the King birth was AFTER 1911.

Perhaps Emma was commuting!

On the other hand...................

Births Dec 1914 (>99%)
BUFFERY Horace J Corns Aston 6d 821

Births Mar 1917 (>99%)
Buffery Leslie R Corns Aston 6d 744

Or did she simply go back to her husband?

Gee

Gee Report 15 Jan 2014 14:31

I saw the Buffery couple on the 1911 but there is only 1 Emma Corns born in Warwickshire at the time around 1877

Wonder if she and King lived together and Alfred just entered her on the census?
