On the parish record are the names Thomas Hill both written as Christian names? Often if a child is illegitimate the mother will give the child the father's surname as a second forename. Perhaps he was therefore Thomas Hill Earl. Just a thought.

Have you tried some google searches, e.g.

'Parish Registers

The baptism of illegitimate children are normally found in the parish registers of the place of the child's birth, but the names of the putative fathers are only occasionally recorded there. From the mid-eighteenth century the likely name of the father may be surmised from entries such as "William Smith bastard of Mary Jones" where there is a strong presumption that the father was called William Smith. I have a Parish Record entry for 1769.It reads "Thomas Hill Bastard son of Elizabeth Earl"
Does this mean that he was christened with the father's surname although there was no marriage?
