I'm trying to find any information about Patrick Joseph McSwiggan.
Believed to be a cook in the British army. Last heard of around
1954 in Ramsey Isle of Man. ANY information would be gratefully
received.
Regards

Thank you all for all your information.
unfortunately I have little background only an approximate
age and passed- on information he was a cook in the army.
He was married to my wife's mother in 1947. He disappeared
around 1954,.last seen Ramsey Isle of Man.

Hi David,

You may not know much about him, but there must be something that connects you to him which may give clues as to his age, where from & other family members.

for instance is he an uncle? - if so you would know his sibling, your parent. Or is it a more distant relative, to have knowledge of him someone must have passed it on if you are not a direct descendant.

We only have information, from now deceased relatives. He was said to be irish but not whether north or south, was a cook in the army but don't know which army.
He married my wife's mother in 1947 when his occupation is given as a labourer. He disappeared from Ramsey Isle pf Man around 1954 We are currently getting the marriage cert but the age on this is believed to be incorrect.

So, from the wording of your post, he isn't actually related to you - or your wife.

As you were born in the Isle of Man, presumably, that's where the 1947 marriage took place...............it would have been helpful if you'd said so.

The marriage IOM

Year Surname Name Parish/Town Where Married Page Entry Register Notes
1947 Mcswiggan Patrick Joseph Maughold 588 37 COE

Two children from that marriage

From what I can see from IOM BMD's David is married to Patricks daughter so yes he is related by marriage

In those circumstances, one would have expected David to refer to the man as his wife's father, rather than to say 'he married my wife's mother'. Odd................
