What to do next

Always double-check the original image of the index page to make sure that all the details, and especially volume and page numbers, are correct before ordering the certificate.
Order the marriage certificate online and wait for your certificate to be delivered.
If you are researching back in time, calculate the bride's and groom's approximate years of birth from the ages recorded on their marriage certificate, then search the birth indexes for their births around those dates.
If you are researching forward in time, then search the birth indexes for possible children of the marriage; this is easier from September quarter 1911, when the mother's maiden surname appears in the birth index; up to June quarter 1911 you may need to restrict your search by district.
As the marriage certificate will give you recorded ages at marriage, from which you can calculate approximate years of birth, it is possible also to start searching the death indexes for the deaths of the bride and groom if you know or believe them now to be deceased.
If the marriage was before 1911, you may wish to search for the couple on the census returns of 1841, 1851, 1861, 1871, 1881, 1891, 1901 and 1911, as relevant.

No, I found that marriage but the occupation is coal miner.

Thank you,

Hmmmm any other ideas?

I SUSPECT the name is Heathcock but would like a document to confirm.

Thank you for all of this ... seems the best thing would be to buy the marriage certificate but looking at the 1851 Census, unless Sarah was a 'second marriage', then not sure there it seems there hasn't been an appropriate marriage found yet.

On a related note, can we find the father's details from this marriage please?

Again, I don't need any of the census etc, just looking for the father's names.

Thank you.

Pity the Llewelyn marriage didn't fit, but at least you can rule it out.

Many of the children's baptisms are on http://www.freereg.org.uk/ and often give more information than the familysearch transcriptions.

Unfortunately they haven't transcribed the Deavonport/Heathcock marriage

Thanks Detective although I am rather glad as I am hoping this is a Sarah Heathcock.

And thank you for the link to the transcriptions.

I have family events at those times in that church, so this must be a select transcription but thank you anyway.

Ancestry's version - note the number of FHL film numbers

England, Select Marriages, 1538–1973 about Samuel Heathcock

It isn't transcribed on Familysearch.(EDIT - or rather it is, but the father's name not shown) If you can get to your LDS local centre, you ought to be able to order one of the films to view the image.

Just mentioning this site, in case you weren't aware of it. Only good for registered events after civil registration began.

Thank you again Detective - out of interest though, why are the FHL film numbers important?

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 23 Mar 2014 21:05

It seems rather a large number of films!

As a guess, some might be Banns, at least one the Bishop Transcripts and another the actual register.

If you did want to order them to view, the numbers would be a starting point

Peter

Peter Report 23 Mar 2014 21:11

Ah I see. I will need to see the marriage, as Samuel is related almost certainly, being one of two cousins ... question is, which one?!

Thank you.

Andrew Report 23 Mar 2014 21:19

Finding the original registers for this area can be a right pain. I've looked at Staffs RO, Worcester RO, Dudley Archives and Sandwell RO. All the areas overlap and the county boundaries between Worcester and Stafford moved over time. Also the Non Conformist registers are mainly at Sandwell, Arghhhhh.

Browsing another site and found this tip regarding familysearch - not sure how accurate it is
.........
you can check on familysearch website - if they have the record on their website, you may use their request form to obtain a copy of the records they hold for that entry - this is free of charge and you may request up to 4 records per month - the documents are then sent to you via email
