There is no doubt on the GRO index about the MMN

Births Mar 1918 (>99%)
Odell Leonard W Watts Croydon 2a 530

The cert will have full names of parents

Parents' marriage is probably 1913...........look at birth records of Leonard's siblings

BUT......for 100% accuracy get the birth cert

If you are looking for a marriage for Leonard, remember to use 'phonetic surname search' on freebmd

But Ancestry has it transcribed as WATTE
Name: Leonard W Odell
Mother's Maiden Surname: Watte
Date of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar 1918
Registration district: Croydon
Inferred County: Surrey
Volume Number: 2a
Page Number: 530

Its a typed list and the last letter is blurred so could be either s or e

Bearing in mind this was just after WW1 it could be a second marriage for his mum

So getting his birth cert would be the best bet

That was why I advised the poster to use 'phonetic' search on freebmd

He didn't return to his thread in 2010, so........................

If the enquiry is ongoing for the same family then you dont mark a thread as answered but carry on posting on it .

Starting a new thread only gets people wasting their time looking up info already found and posted .

This can be very annoying to helpers who are giving their time trying to help :-(
