Can anyone help me to trace the registration or baptism of my gt grandfather's birth please? He was born Q3 1870 the census state Longton Stoke-on-Trent, was always known as Ernest. He married as Joseph Ernest in 1892 but was buried as Ernest Joseph in 1944 I have the details of his marriage and death all in the Stoke on Trent area. Although his Mother was known as Frances or Fanny Bagnall her birth was registered as Emma! Frances was not married when she had Ernest. On the 1871/81 census they lived in Draycott on the Moor. Any help would be appreciated as I have been after him for a number of years. Many thanks.

Although Ernest is described as Grand daughter, his age is in the male column.
It reads 16 months which is crossed out and replaced with 1 yr

babs1 states 'He was born Q3 1870'.
However that does not tie in with that 1871 census, which was why I asked her what age she thought it was.

The census was taken on 2nd April, 1871, so if he was 16 months he would have been born about November/December 1869.

Have had a pm stating babs1 read the age as 6 months.

The '1' does look separated from the '6' - is it definitely a '1' and not just someone's tally mark?
(As compared to '16' at the bottom of the page)

However, if he was 11 in 1881, then 16 months in 1871 is more likely.

I am looking for the birth registration or baptism of my great grandfather Ernest Joseph or Joseph Ernest Bagnall 1869/70 in Stoke on Trent possibly Longton. His Mother was registered as Emma Bagnall but was known as Fanny or Frances. She was unmarried when she had Ernest Joseph and on the census they lived in Draycott in the Moor. Can anyone help me to knock down this brick wall please?

Why would they change 6 months to 1 yr ?
16 months seems more likely
