Susan Report 15 Apr 2014 18:27

I cannot find any record of the birth of my Great Aunt Georgina M Wears. I know she existed as she is recorded in the home of her mother and father Margaret and Robert Wears in the 1881 Census as '2' , along with her sisters Lizzie A '4' and Ada '1'.

Georgina is also in the 1901 Census in the home of her grandmother Margaret Bell - her own mother Margaret having died aged 25 and leaving four little girls, Lizzie, Georgina, Ada and my grandmother Mary.

While I have the birth certificates of Lizzie, Ada and Mary I cannot find her on freembd and have tried twice to obtain a certificate from the GRO under Georgina M or Margaret Georgina for the two year period between 1878-1880.

The reason I chose the latter names is because I found a marriage of Margaret Georgina Wears to an Edward Rose ( Freembd) and also their emigration to Canada on the passenger lists. I thought this must be Georgina as I cannot find her in deaths or the later 1911 census. The GRO cannot find their marriage certificate as I wanted to check if it was her.

I can see all the other births on Freembd and all took place at East Heaton Farm, Newcastle on Tyne.

I want to locate her certificate because I am writing about the life of these little girls who lost their mother when she was only 25 and what happened to them and their lives. Can you please help.

Thank you

Could you let us know what was the year the immigration record to Canada?

EDIT: I have found passenger lists, and subsequent Canadian records for a Georgina M Rose but she was married to a James

Hello Everyone and thank you so much for your responses. I am not sure if I am responding to everyone all at once.

Firstly - no I did not put the the volume and page number but I will try that again today.

Secondly - the travel dates are 19 Nov. 1915/Ship name 'Corsican'/dep. Liverpool
There is another time she travelled with her husband Edward Rose but I appear to have mislaid it at the moment.

Thank you for your welcome Ann and message. Margaret's son George died before she did as did two other children but the four girls survived. I have been lucky enough to find Ada's granddaughter who ended up living close by here in Australia.

It is 5.06am here. I say this because I often do this work when I cannot sleep and so may not answer right away because of the time differences in the world.

Thank you very much again.

Regards
Sue

Hi Sue - before you order the marriage certificate, take a look at that 1911 census I posted!

EDIT: I've also found Edward and Pauline Rose together in the 1911 so the pairings in 1901 were:

Margaret Georgina Wears married John Ferry
Paulina Jewitt married Edward Rose

Evening again everyone. I am so grateful! I will certainly check the census and I'm afraid it's too late for the GRO - although I will try to amend.

The roots web URL is Ada's great granddaughter and all the documents she has posted were given to her from our family collection after I discovered her online.

All very much appreciated and will let you know how things turn out.
Regards
Sue :-D

Hello Flip and Prickly Holly

I am overwhelmed and fascinated by this information. Can you tell me how you did it?
I would never have thought of "Meggie". Can you tell me how you found this.

Similarly I don't know how Prickly Holly found the individual information on Maud. Can you please tell me what sites you used? I know freebmd.

Also since I put John and Margaret's info and children onto my Genes R tree I have found tree matches which I am sure are my relatives - awaiting their response.

If you could let me know how you found out the above info. I could learn how to do it myself. Very much appreciated. Really thankful.
regards
Sue
