I wonder if this is the same Robert Gordon in 1920 - states he had been in US since 1882, and they married in 1887. Wife apppears to have been in US since 1877.

Robert Gordon 54
Maraget Gordon 44
Robert J Gordon 28 (born Virginnia)
Frederick Gordon 26 (born Pensyllvania)
Margaret Gordon 20 (ditto)

Added: his occupation is the same (steam fitter) as recorded on the 1923 death certificate - so same person. Death cert names his mother & father, so it is your guy.

The 1900 census actually states he arrived in US in 1872, not 1882 which would fit better with the story about the mother and 7 "children" going to America.

Alan, do you have the 1859 birth cert? If so what other info is on it? Eg, father's occupation; mother's address; name of informant.

As Robert snr seems to have been born in Scotland, maybe he and Angelina married there.
