Good evening
I have the medal index record from Ancestry for Richard Joseph Forbes, b 2 April 1891 at Christ Church, Chelsea, Middlesex, England and died 22 August 1952 in Bromley, Kent. The medal record shows him as being in the 2nd East Surrey Regiment, no 9839, a sergeant. He received the Distinguished Conduct Medal LG (?), Vol. 14-1-16, page A23.
Could someone please advise how I might find out a little more about the circumstances of his receipt of the DCM?
Thanks in advance,
Ron

My sincere apologies for not coming back to this post earlier, but I am extremely grateful for all of your replies. I am researching this particular gentleman for his son, who is a Chelsea Pensioner and currently aged 84. I volunteer at the Royal Hospital, Chelsea and have undertaken some family history research for a number of the In-Pensioners. I'm sure Mr Forbes junior will be very pleased with the information you have all provided. I shall follow up the links in the near future.
My best regards to all of you.

For £30, Mr Forbes jr could apply for a copy of his father's army records.

It might not go into any more detail than already given, but might be worth a try.
