Thank you all very much ,
Pauline not mine I,m afraid, my John was born in Glasgow.
safc, this is my family I recognize the address from other family members and also the boarder staying with the mcCluskey's is Elizabeth's sister. Annie Rankin.

Hello Rootgatherer, I am fine thank you , hope you are too?
I don't know about the 1891. I don't think John remarried ,as far as I know Elizabeth (Lizzie ) died in 1940 and John died 1919 although i will have to verify this on SP.
I have just come back to this family after leaving them on the back burner for a while.

thank you all once again

Jean

Jean Report 2 Aug 2016 16:02

Thank you safc,
just going to that now,
I have already tried George but not seeing him on the 1911,I thought he might have been married by 1911 as he would be about 23 but can't see him, I will try bella,

thank you

Jean

Jean Report 2 Aug 2016 17:06

No luck with the census, only 1 Isabella ( Bella ) McCluskey b 1890 on the 1911 and she is another one of mine which I had already seen on SP.

Found Elizabeth, John's wife's death in 1940 in Camlachie district, her son George signed the death certificate, so i at least know he was still alive in 1940.
There is 1 death for a George McCluskey in Glasgow but too recent to view.
I will look for a marriage for George, hopefully I will pick the right one.

Jean

Jean Report 17 Aug 2016 16:15

Could someone please look to see if George McCluskey b.1888 has any service records.

I still can't find any of them on the 1911 scottish census with variations on their surname .

I have been looking for a marriage for George but there are quite few and I don't want to waste any more credits by choosing the wrong one again, so I figure if I had an area he was living in during WW1 it might make it easier .

thank you

Hello rootgatherer,
how are you?
As you can see I am still on the look out for my McCluskeys, or however they are spelling their names, they drive me up the wall sometimes, but when one of them is found it's a grand feeling .

This one looks very promising.
I think some of my lot did live in East John Street at some time or another I will have to check my records.
Do you know which area East John Street would be in ?

Jean Report 17 Aug 2016 16:43

Thank you again rootgatherer,
just had a look at them, same fathers name as my George.
I might have a look on the 1913 valuation rolls for Glasgow for East John Street to see if they are on there.

Right area Jean. It was in the Calton, just off the Gallowgate and was renamed Bluevale Street. I notice your McLuskie family had stayed in Thomson Lane previously. Present day Thomson Street and Bluevale Street are parallel to one another and run from Duke Street down towards the Gallowgate. 5 minute walk away from me.

rootgatherer Report 17 Aug 2016 16:49

Just checked, Thomson Lane, Mile-end was renamed Crownpoint Road.

See if this link works as it could be useful for you

http://www.glasgowguide.co.uk/info-streetschanged3.html

Many of the Glasgow streets were renamed when Govan and Partick became part of Glasgow to avoid confusion with streets from those areas with the same names.

Jean

Jean Report 17 Aug 2016 16:55

Thank you for the information rootgatherer,

You are quite right, as usual, just had a look on the valuation rolls for East John Street and it is the Camlachie district ,
Are the Calton and the Camlachie district one and the same,I am getting a bit confused about names of districts .

There is only 1 Elizabeth mcCluskey at No.11 East John Street don' t think she is mine though.

Jean

Jean Report 17 Aug 2016 17:06

Thanks for link rootgatherer,

I had looked at it before.

George's father John's occupation was Coal carrier on his marriage cert and on the 1901 it is Carter which is the same as George's occupation on his service records, so it does look promising.

I think I will have another look on SP for the marriages in Camlachie.

rootgatherer Report 17 Aug 2016 17:06

I think the districts run into one another but I'm not certain. I always thought that Camlachie was nearer the Parkhead end of the Gallowgate and Calton between Bell grove and Glasgow Cross but can't be sure.

Jean

Jean Report 17 Aug 2016 17:23

I think you are correct rootgatherer,

Just had a look at George's mother Elizabeth's death certificate which George was the informant and his address was Muir Street which I think is in the Parkhead district.
