Find Ancestors

Trying to find the address of siblings and hopefully parents of Frederick Ricketts born 1910 , Florence Ricketts born 1908 and George Ricketts born 1904 at St James and St John, Clerkenwell, Holborn. Just found my grandfathers death cert and had the wrong man on my family tree for over 20 years. I have still not learned not to make assumptions.

Thanks all, Assuming( I have learned my lesson and will confirm everything) my grand father was Frederick Frances Rickett born march 1910, Holborn as above in 1911 census. with parents George Rickett born 1877 and Mary Ann Clarke, married 1900 in Holborn. looking for siblings of Frederick, George Edward born 1904, Gertrude Florence born 1908 and Mary Ann born 1901. I have only found Fred in 1939 under the name Frederick Richttes 100% correct, need some help to find the other siblings.

Well I missed that marriage Choccy - and top of the FMP list this morning, so I guess it was there yesterday!!

Just ordered marriage cert for Frederick Ricketts and Elisabeth A Elliott June 1930, Shoreditch (grandparents) Fred's death cert says he was born 23rd Feb 1909. I can't find a birth that matches that.Thanks for all your help and will call on you all again when it arrives.

don't put too much emphasis on the birth date on the death certificate!


Much of the information on a death certificate is only what was known to the informant, and therefore it is hearsay. We all find much of that hearsay information to be wrong!

Information that is accurate on a death certificate ........

Date, place and cause of death
Name of doctor and/or coroner
Name and relationship of informant


Literally everything else is "hearsay" ..... what the deceased person told people.

Many people changed their names because they didn't like the one their parents had given them, or they may not have told anyone that they had more than 1 forename.

People changed their ages .......... but you will usually find that they keep the date correct. The year may well vary by 1 or more years.


My grandfather was the oddity ................. he changed the day and month :-S

......... he led everyone in the family to believe that he was born on 25 December, year not specified. We all had to go on Christmas Day because that was his birthday! The pressure was enormous!

NO ........ he was born 9 January 1885, but he was baptized on 29 Dec 1886 at the same time as his younger sister.

He did have his birth certificate in a drawer, which his son found after grandfather's death, so he knew what he was doing.

He and his wife also told thy vicar they were 1-2 years older than their true ages when they got married ............... she said she was 20 (really 19), he said he was 18 (really 17). I don't see the point of why they did that as they still had to get parental permission :-D
