Hi, thankyou for this info, but still trying to find the link between Jack Stevens and Herbert Stevens as they are suppose to be 2nd cousins but cannot find anything on ancestry. Cannot add Herbert to family tree as do not know where to link him up on the tree.

In your first post you said they were cousins - i.e. their parent is sibling to the others parent (or child of their aunt/uncle). They have a grandparent in common.

However, now you say 2nd cousin, which is where they share the same great grandparents which makes finding the relationship more difficult to trace.

So, if Jack's great grandparents are Joseph Stevens and Louisa Ellen Day who married in 1858, then Herbert should also be a great grandchild of Joseph.

Name Joseph Stevens
Birth Date 1838
Age 20
Spouse's Name Louisa Ellen Day
Spouse's Birth Date 1839
Spouse's Age 19
Event Date 1858
Event Place St.Ippollitts, Hertford, England
Father's Name William Stevens
Spouse's Father's Name James Day

That will mean finding all the children of Joseph and following the male children back downwards to a Herbert b 1924
(or even the illegitimate child of a Stevens daughter) It could also be that they were 'cousins removed"

If you google and ask - "how are we related" there are various relationship charts that explain - hopefully you'll find one that you find easy to use.

Cousin is one of those loose terms that is used to cover various relationships.
