Dear All,

Could someone please lookup:

James Arthur Harby b1906 Dover in the Immigation & Travel section.

I have access to Ancestry but not worldwide.

I can see that he went to Canada in 1930 aged 24 & then returned. There are other voyages, but I cannot access the data as I don't have the correct membership.

Thanks in advance

Gillian

Hi All,

Thanks for your replies,

Yes it is the Arthur J Harby b1906. I did not have his death date in 1989. I had seen the 1954 one but it didn't seem correct as not the part of the UK were he lived.

I understand that all the Ancestry travel entries including the ones I couldn't access are for the same voyage in 1930. Am I right?

I have him married to Florence M Bowles-Evans in 1935 in Marylebone. I have not found any children. I was rather hoping that he travelled after marrying and that his wife & maybe their children (if any) were with him.

Thanks to all again,

Gillian

Yes, the same voyage, actually 2 of them

His voyage to Canada aboard the Empress of Australia departed Southampton 2 Aug. 1930 and arrived Montreal, Quebec 8 Aug.

His return aboard the Duchess of Richmond left Montreal not sure when but arrived Southampton 6 Sep. 1930.

Just looking at records of the British Empire Games, 1930, Canada.

The England team won gold in coxless fours. The team was F.M.L. Fitzwilliams, A.J. Halby, Hugh Edwards and Humphrey Boardman. (Just a mis-spelling Halby/Harby?)

He was also on the team of eights who won gold, again as A.J. Halby.

Gosh that's really interesting. Thanks very much.

I know that he was always involved in the Dover Regatta. Later on when he was married.
