Lost my Scanlons

This one really has me stumped so I'd be glad of any help.
Daniel Scanlon, born 01/04/1886, married Mary A. Meade, born in 1879, Bedwellty district. They married in 1913 and had a daughter, Mary Theresa, on 26/04/1914.

I have the above info from Daniel's army records which also have his death certificate saying he died on 04/11/1939 in Neath, Glamorganshire but his widow is Margaret A. Scanlon. She was born on 18/08/1901 and died in 1982 in Neath. I have found them on the 1939 register with two daughters, Nancy, born on 30/06/1920 and Ellen, born on 20/04/1927.

It seems that Daniel's first wife died and he remarried but I cannot find a death record for Mary or a marriage to Margaret or birth records for the girls.

Please does anyone have any ideas or can anyone point out a glaring error I've made? I've been going round in circles with this all day.

Where do John & Patrick fit in ?

Births Mar 1922 (>99%)
Scanlon John Meade Bedwellty 11a 285
Scanlon Patrick Meade Bedwellty 11a 285

It does at least tell us that Mary A was still around in 1922.

Not seeing births for the girls ,maybe they are Margaret's children by her first marriage

I think I've just found a death for Mary in 1922 so maybe Nancy was hers. Someone has a tree with her birth as 1891 but does not have Nancy or Ellen. I'm wondering if they were Margaret's and had their names changed to Scanlon when she married Daniel. They are definitely Scanlon in 1939. If Mary did die in 1922 this would be after Nancy's birth. I'm considering the fact that they may not have married at all.

That looks like it, Dea and Shirley. I assumed James and Harrison were married names because one has a date next to it, although it's illegible. I found that too, Andrew and that's what started the confusion. Thank you all for looking.

That looks very much like it, Shirley. I wish I'd asked for help sooner now.

Margaret's birth could be any of these

Right qtr for an August birth

JAMES Margaret Ann Bedwelty 11a 126
JAMES Margaret Ann Pontypridd 11a 590
JAMES Margaret Ann Cardigan 11b 3
JAMES Margaret Ann Swansea. 11a. 1088

It would seem she wasn't married to Daniel as there's no James. or Milsom marriage to Scanlon

I doubt they were married too, Shirley. Also, the 1891 birth for Mary isn't correct. The 1881 census has her there at two years of age and I know the parents there are hers - John and Catherine Meade (nee Nagle), both born in Ireland. She was Mary Ann, not Agnes. The 1879 birth date does not tie in with the 1922 death record, though, which gives her age at death at 31. Curiouser and curiouser.

If this is the correct Thomas Milsom, it looks like Margaret wasn't his first wife. The record is very feint and difficult, if not impossible, to read.

Everything points to Daniel being married to Mary Agnes (daughter of John & Bridget) b c 1891 not Mary Ann b. c1879 ..................

The marriage to Daniel just shows her as Mary so where do you have the proof from that she was Mary Anne (birth reg. Abergavenny) , daughter of John & Catherine ?

Thanks,

Dea x
