I am looking for the following in 1939:-

1, William Foster b 1865 & Margaret (Nee Lattimer) b1860, Wigton/Carlisle area of Cumberland,

2, Edward Foster b1871 & Hannah (Nee Clemetson/Harrison?) in Wallsend area,

& finally (for now!)

John H. Jackson b1874 & Ellen (Nee Foster) b 1875 in Aspatria/Wigton area of Cumberland.

I can't see any sign of Ellen on 1939 register, nor a death or remarriage.

At least not in Cumberland. But maybe she moved away after John's death ??
Must admit, it seems unlikely, having spent all her life in Wigton area.

I have found a possible death for Ellen Jackson - Dec 1948 Ashton under Lyne aged 74 years, and another for December 1949, aged 75 years.

Either age fits but location doesn't seem to fit. Not where I expect it to be which is Cumberland (Wigton/Carlisle areas).

What do you think??

People did move around quite a lot at that period in time. I have found female relatives all over the country on the 1939 register - usually working, although "your" Ellen was perhaps a little older than the relatives I found.

I think the death you found in Ashton under Lyne is possibly this one, so not "yours":-

I agree with you. Ashton doesn't feel right anyway!

I should have said that the Dec 1949 was in Durham West. This would make more sense as some of the family moved to Co. Durham / Tyneside area. Still unsure though.

If not here, then where??
