Hi All
Can any one tell me how this works .
1871 census.
Name. Relation. Age. Birth Year. Birth place
James Rushmer Head. 47. 1824. Norfolk
Hannah. ". Wife. 47. 1824. "
Arthur. ". Son. 19. 1852. "
Georgina ". Daughter 12. 1859. "
Charles. ". Son. 10. 1861. "
Alonzo. ". Son. 7. 1864. "
Susannah. ". Daughter. 4. 1867. "
London
Susanah Smith. Granddaughter 4. 1867. Middlesex

James. Smith. Grandson. 2. 1869. ""
John. Smith. Father-in-law. 77 1794 Norfolk

The reson I ask is James Smith may be my grate grandfather and my grandfather was Alonzo Smith, and I know family's some times call their children after old relations.
I can't work out how Susanah and James are the grand children I under stand that Hannah must have been a Smith.

The image of the 1871 says the "grand-children" were born in London.

Peter, you asked how it would help to know the birth record.

If we know that, we can look it up on the GRO website which gives the mother's maiden name - as on the birth I've posted above. Then we could perhaps find the parents' marriage.
