Nice one Marie.

So now we know who she was which just leaves us with finding out who George was and where he actually came from!

MargaretM Report 15 Apr 2012 14:31

Well I left to go have my breakfast and you guys have it all sorted! Well, almost all.
Should I delete all of those censuses I posted with the wrong family?

Astra

Astra Report 15 Apr 2012 14:35

Well I have to leave it now for a while. Hopefully the OP will get the marriage certificate and give us George's fathers name and occupation if he knew it. From the different birth places he gives and dates it may be that he didn't live with his family.

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 15 Apr 2012 14:42

Actually the OP posted it in 2007 then bumped it yesterday. Maybe he'll wait another 5 years before responding?

Have sent a pm in case they don't realise that you don't get any notification of responses.

Hi everyone, thanks for all the info you have put here. My info came to me by my cousin who lives in Blackpool. I have no idea where he got the info from. Also I heard or found somewhere that George Stevens committed suicide. I don't know if this is true. He may have also been married before marrying Matilda Anslow , this I have no idea. I do know that he was a painter. Matilda Stevens is my Great Great Gran & their daughter, Matilda is my Great Gran. Thanks for all the help Paula

Barbara, to find out if Kevin is still researching click on his name to send him a direc direct message as he appears to sometimes delay returning to his thread.

If you have some info that you think could help the search then you could post it on here and we could see if we can take it further.

Hi all, yes I am still searching but at present it's on hold as I've been in touch with a lady that could hold the info I'm looking for as she is looking into something else regarding a distant relative through my gran Doris Fitton(nee Wild). But she has told me that George Stevens has a middle name which is Bates, he may have been born in Brighton, he married Anslow Matilda in Salford 1878 & he died Oct 1938 which makes him about 93 when he died. He is buried at Southern Cemetery. He is buried with Anslow Matilda who died in 1917, Albert George Stevens who died in 1932. Not sure who Albert is at present. When she has finished everything she is doing then she will be sending me a copy of the family tree so I will have all info. Thanks everyone

Kevin, that lady is probably on to something.

If you look at the 1911 census I posted on the first page his name was transcribed as George Baker Stevens - I've just had a look at the original image and the middle name is definitely Bates.

The form was completed by a Thurston Bird of 11 East Road.

Do let us know what the outcome is.

Sorry, can't resist posting what I find - you can always compare with what the lady has.

This would be worth checking out:

Date of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec 1844

Hi MarieCeleste,
Thanks for this info about Anslow, it seems to tie in with the year of death I have & also being dried at Southern Cemerery.
At the present moment, the lady that has been in touch with me can't give me anymore info until things are sorted. As soon as things have been done then she will be sending a copy of the tree.
If you happen to come across anymore info please feel free to get in touch.

Thank you, I will take a look at that. The other thing I would like to know is how can I find out if he committed suicide? I can't remember where I got the info from but I have him down as committing suicide. Hope you can help me with this. :)
