I AM TRYING TO FIND OUT ABOUT MY GREAT GRANDMOTHER. HER NAME WAS JULIA MORBY, MORBY BEING HER MARRIED NAME SHE WAS BORN IN WHITCHURCH SOMERSET IN 1864. I BELEIVED SHE HAD TWO CHILDREN CALLED HARRY? & MARY ANN. I AM NOT AWARE IF SHE WAS MARRIED TO THEIR FATHER OR WHO HE WAS. SHE MOVED TO PONTYPRIDD MID GLAMORGAN WITH HER TWO CHILDREN THEN MARRIED JOHN MORBY AND HAD SEVEN MORE CHILDREN. I AM THE GRANDCHILD OF MARY ANN AND AM TRYING TO RESEARCH MY FAMILY TREE, BUT UNFORTUNATELY MOST OF MY FAMILY HAVE PASSED ON. I WOULD LOVE TO FIND OUT THE NAME OF MY GRANDMOTHERS (MARY ANN) FATHER WAS SO THAT I CAN RESEARCH FURTHER. I HOPE I WILL BE SUCCESSFUL LORRAINE STAWICKI

Hi Lorraine - I do some research into Morby families and have a tree for Julia Gully who married John William Morby in Bristol in 1888. Both Mary Ann and John H have the surname Burrows. I found this information on Ancestry

"The following information was found on a message board "Curious Fox" covering the South Petherton district. Julia Gully had two children Mary Ann born 1884 in Banbury Oxford, the fathers name was given as Charles Burrows occupation Engine Driver, mother Julia Burrows nee Gully, a second child Henry John was born 1887 in Fareham again the father is given as Charles Burrows Engine Driver mother Julia Burrows nee Gully. Despite extensive research a marriage between Julia and John Burrows cannot be verified. Julia married John Morby in 1888, her status was shown as spinster. "

Researching descendants of John Mawbey and Henrietta Simpson who lived in Colmworth, Bedfordshire. John was born around 1802. The surname spelling changed through Moorby to eventually settle on different branches with either Morby, Morbey or Moorbey. Spread includes Cambridgeshire, Midlands, Manchester, Devon/Cornwall, Buckinghamshire and London.
