Swansea, Glamorgan I'm researching my great grandfatherx2's family who hail, in the main, from Swansea, Glamorgan. His name was Peter JOHNSON (born 1834 in Corfu Greece, I need to visit Kew to gather more info on this surprising birthplace). Peter was a Mariner and I have found records of several of his sailing voyages from Swansea but very little information other than the 1881 Census (possibly he was at sea when the other census were taken but I cannot find the family either). In the 1881 Census the family are listed as living in 54 Garden St., Swansea (now long demolished) with Elizabeth JOHNSON, Wife aged 41 born in Swansea. Siblings - all born in Swansea listed are:- Laura JOHNSON, Daughter, aged 19, Dressmaker Catherine JOHNSON, daughter 17, no occupation Thomas JOHNSON, son 14, Bakers Apprentice - My great grandfather who subsequently moved to Cardiff and married Elizabeth Marie SIMMONDS (born 1865 in Whitchurch, Herefordshire) Alick JOHNSON, son, 11, Scholar Maggie JOHNSON, daughter 9, Scholar Elizabeth JOHNSON, daughter 7, Scholar Beatrice JOHNSON, daughter 2. I believe that wife Elizabeth died in 1882 and that Peter subsequently married a Catherine LEWIS in March 1884 also in Swansea.
