Trying to find Hall

I am trying to find out about a school teacher named Mary Ann Hall. She gave birth to a baby named Catherine Hall on the 13th of July 1883. The address was 56 Weymouth Street, Chorlton-upon-Medlock, Manchester which seems to have been a private dwelling at that time. No father was mentioned on the birth certificate. Catherine(Kate) was "adopted" by the Black family at some point and lived in Lasswade, Lothian until she married. We would love to find out who Mary Ann was to complete this part of our family tree. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
