Hi Cherilyn, One thing if you could find any information for me as to when George Fredrick Moore went to Australia and which vessel he went on etc. Thank you! Liz

Cherilyn

Cherilyn Report 30 Mar 2007 05:03

Liz There is a possibility that George MOORE arrived at age 17 in Dec 1871 on board Stonehouse with his parents and siblings. Parents were John (47) and Sarah (48) and siblings John (25), Mary (18), Harry (18), and Frances (14). This may not be the right family! Maybe the census will help here. Happy hunting! Cheers Cherilyn

Alison Report 2 Apr 2007 10:30

Hi Cherilyn, Thanks for the kind offer. Not sure if you can help at all but I am trying to find out when and where William Shaw might have gone to Australia on. Sorry I dont have any other information than this. From information on a Poor Record in 1861 it says that William Shaw Age 20 born Glasgow was in Australia. Parents John Shaw (dec) & Mary Wardrop. Not sure when he would have left but I am guessing that it must have been late 1850's due to his age. And I,m guessing he would have been on his own as his Mother a widow and the rest of his family still in Scotland at the time of Poor record. I did look to see if I could find a marriage but couldn't find one in Scotland. His Brother James also seems to disapear after the 1861 census. His age was 22 and born Glasgow.I'm wondering if he also made his way to Australia. So any help at all would be great. Regards Ali

Hi Alison Here is a possible immigration to Victoria: Surname: SHAW Given Names: WM Ship: MILES BARTON Month: JUL Year: 1854 Age: 13 Code: B Fiche: 071 Page: 001 It appears he travelled alone (or at least, not with another SHAW). Too many marriage for Wm SHAW's to narrow it down I'm afraid and no deaths with same parents. In Orange, NSW there is a death for a William SHAW with parents John & Mary but no maiden name for his mother so may be wrong man (1889/13233). No sign of James' arrival that fits his age between 1862-71 in Vic but in NSW a James aged 23 travelled on Hotspur, arriving 1862. Several possible marriages but no death for him found. Cheers Cherilyn

Thank you for the offer Cherilyn, Could you please try and find a marriage or death for John BEMROSE He was born about 1801 in Lincolnshire England, was transported to NSW in 1837 as a convict. The last documentation I have for him is a ticket of leave in 1841. No sign of a pardon or freedom Hope you can help Thank you Carol

Cherilyn

Cherilyn Report 10 Apr 2007 04:41

Hi Carol Happy to try to return the favour but no luck so far I'm afraid...do you have a copy of the Ticket of Leave? (you can get it from the SAG web site for A$11). This should tell you where he wanted to go to work (he must have applied for leave from NSW). Can't see him in NSW, possible he went to Tasmania. Doubtful he went to WA as it was a very young (and harsh) colony then. There is one BEMROSE in Victoria but that is Austin BEMROSE and he married in 1877. A John Peter BROSE appears briefly in the 1850s. Sorry :-( Cherilyn

Hi Cherilyn, I am once again seeking your help. This time I am after any information regarding: NICHOLSON Kenneth. I have date of birth as 27/11/1855 or 1865 but not sure where. Date of death 04/07/1960 ? Southport Queensland. His parents are named as being: NICHOLSON Murdoch & Marion (nee McINNIS). Any information you can help with with would be appreciated. Regards, Fran :)

Cherilyn Report 10 Apr 2007 08:45

Hi Fran There is a John NICHOLSON born to Murdoch and Maron [sic] in Drayton, NSW in 1859 (reg 7008). No other births or deaths to this couple. A Murdock NICHOLSON arrived in NSW as an assisted immigrant aboard Lord George Bentinck in 1849 but no marriage found in NSW. Nothing in Victoria or WA. Might be worth checking Queensland? Cheers Cherilyn

Hey fairlyfatfairy! Found him in Ryersons Index...it must be him as there are notices for a Cedric Roy ELLIOT and a Ric ELLIOT for the same death date. ELLIOT Cedric Roy, Death notice, 10MAY1995 Death ELLIOT Ric, Death notice, 10MAY1995 Death, late of North Sydney Both in Sydney Morning Herald published 12MAY1995 Someone has one of his prints on ebay for A$12, it is quite nice actually...! http://cgi*ebay*com*au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260094603758 (replace * with .) Looks like his originals sell for between A$1100 and $4400! He was definitely known as Ric; no marriage up to 1956 in NSW. I don't have access to the Herald sorry but you could try www*raogk*com for NSW volunteers. Good luck! Cherilyn

Hi Carol Still no luck sorry - even though Queanbeyan is in NSW...very odd. Maybe he changed his name? Hiding his convict past! I have a female convict in my hubby's tree who changed hers completely. Makes it very tricky! Sorry I can't help :-( Happy hunting Cherilyn
