Hi Paul, get ready for the demolition, lol....................... if Marys name was Mary Young, Late Lewis formerley Terrell, would mean her maiden name was Terrell, then married a Mr Lewis before John Young........ ( did check this on some of my certs to confirm this ) so am assuming this is the certificate that you have.... Marriages Jun 1871 ------------------------------ Lewis Mary Newport M 11a 287 Young John Newport M 11a 287 so........she told a pack of lies or its the wrong certificate!!!! and also, if this death of John in Jan 1873 is your John, what are the chances of him being the father of Elizabeth bn Oct 1873, close isn't it, lol !!! 1871 Hester Twiner abt 1848 Caerleon, Monmouthshire, Wales Wife Risca Monmouthshire Robert Twiner abt 1853 Staffordshire, England Brother Risca Monmouthshire William Twiner abt 1843 Herefordshire, England Head Risca Monmouthshire William Twiner abt 1869 Risca, Monmouthshire, Wales Son Risca Monmouthshire John Young abt 1845 Wiltshire, England Lodger Risca Monmouthshire i read the rest of the house as TURNER though not Twiner, lol. still working on it......................

Hi Mary, do you have this family in 1901 census? i have looked for them to get John & Marys age & bplace, but am coming up with nothing.................... have looked for a marriage in Lancashire area, but this is the only one i can come up with, lol Marriages Dec 1890 --------------------------------- Buckley Ann Oldham 8d 925 HARTLEY John William Oldham 8d 925 are you aware that you can search the BMD indexes yourself on Ancestry even if you dont subscribe to them? it will take some time, and advise you to start with 1893 and work backwards.... good luck Jane

Hi Jane, Can you find a marriage between a Mary Buckley with a John Hartley in about 1892/4. Mary was born in 1974 and so I believe was John. Maybe the Lancashire area as they had a child in 1893 born in Manchester. I have their son Ralph's birth cert. born 17th May 1893 in Manchester but that's it. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks Mary

Hi Jane, George Thomas in 1880 Westminster sounds right but Im thinking that if it is him on the 1901 sussex census then he would be born 1878 and not 1880. The Willow street one looks right but Im expecting one to turn up with George sen born in Somerset. anyway I will ring my cousins this evening ...they may know a bit more...or even have a certificate. Hetty

Jane Report 18 Oct 2006 21:16

Hetty. give up???? me? no way, am like a dog with a bone with these problems, lol ill keep going.......... nobody else is keeping me busy so i am all yours for now, he he will scout round for a Somerset connection. just to clarify - you don't have George (jnr) or Hettys birth ceretificate do you?

Jane. I am a bit put off by the West Ham Essex bit as well as the wrong initial on the 1891 census. I feel that as George junior has put London Middlesex as his birth place on the 1901 Sussex census that if it is him, we would most likely find him there and if my cousin is right then his father would be down as born in Somerset...who knows they may have all come from Somerset. doesn't this send you dizzy... Do you want to give up yet?. thanks Hetty

Jane Report 18 Oct 2006 20:48

Hetty, i'll just go and look at that original, sometimes F's & T's look alike, be right back........... mmmm to be quite honest i would have said it was F too., lol looks more like the F on Florence than it does on the T on Turner !! back to square 1 aren't we??? does it give an address where they were living on marriage certificate? in this 1891 census, the address was 69 Studley / Hudley rd, West Ham, Essex. if it helps !!

Oooops ... I think that I made.a boo boo...Jane I have looked back over the messages and realise that I confused the 1901 and 1881 census ...sorry. George and Hetty are on the 1901 census in Grinstead Sussex it seems to fit. Im still not sure about the Georges on the 1881 though but have not ruled them out...it says George F and it should be George T for Thomas... Thanks Jane

Jane Report 18 Oct 2006 17:22

Hetty, lol no its ok , i had worked out Hetty was born a Turner too , as had looked up their marriage in 1898. so George & Hettys fathers were brothers, yep thats what i was working on too, which is why i tried to find George with his father named George in 1881 & 1891, to get George snrs age and bplace to find him earlier with brother named William , to then get Williams age & bplace to pinpoint him easier in 1891 with a daughter named Hetty / Ettie/ Harriet/ Henrietta !! just realised also you mention William was deceased in 1898, chances are he might be deceased in 1891 too !! but can i ask why you don't think that is your George in 1881, when even his job matches - carman !! also you say you have found George & Hetty in 1881 in Sussex, why would they be living together in 1881 if they were cousins??? am even more confused now, lol Jane update : jusr re read what i found in 1891 with George & George Jnr, and George jnr has a sister named Florence !!!!

Hi Jane.. I have just read back some of our replys and it is obvious to me that we have a few misunderstandings...its probably my fault for not giving you all the info that I had at the start...and just realised that at one point you mention searching for Hetty's birth name......Hetty was born a Turner and married a Turner. 1901 CENSUS. Found a Ettie and George Turner.... [french polisher]...at East Grinstead Sussex....says born London Middlesex Grandad was a french polisher and he always called Nan ' Ett.' so I think this is probably them. 1898 Have marriage certificate of grandparents...in Marylebone. George Thomas Turner...age 19... [french polisher]. .fathers name George Thomas Turner....Cabman..... and Hetty Turner [birth name Turner] age 17... fathers name William Turner.[deceased]..cabwasher. This is very confusing to explain.. The two brothers George and William Turner [possibly born Somerset] had two children Hetty and George [cousins]...who married so Hetty was Turner before and after marriage. not sure if they were born in London middlesex ....as stated on the 1901 census in East Grinstead ..as I cannot find them... possibilty that they were born in Somerset and moved to London later.... also was told by same cousin that grandad George Turner born about 1879 had a sister called Florence. and Nan Hetty Turner born about 1880ish had a brother called William. hope this has made things a bit clearer ...sorry for any misleadings....this is absolutely all I know...but I will ask cousins for more info...though I don't think that they know anymore. Thanks for your help. regards Hetty

Hetty tell me about it.............. having me going round in circles this lot !!! is the 1881 / 1891 your George b. 1880 ???? also do you have birth certificates for George & Hetty? might be worth while to get the mothers names, and could then pinpoint them in census and would help to get their parents marriage certificates Jane ps did see the extra bit about Somerset & Wales, but don't even want to go down that road just yet, lol
