Hi Mary, you looked up a Mary J Peel for me earlier and found her with her widowed mother, this has lead us to find her father mentioned on a mining disasters website - which has been very interesting! Could I please ask for one more favour - could you look on the 1861 for ANN PEEL born WALLSEND, Northumb. aged abt 34 with her husband ROBERT PEEL and children JOHN and EMMA. They should be in Northumberland. Also on the 1851 for ROBERT PEEL although they maynot have been maried then. Hope this isn't too much trouble but we're really excited with the earlier find. Julie

Hello and thank you for your kind offer. I am looking for an elusive relative's birth or any information on him at all. I do know that he was born c 1831, which I realise is before any official records began. On his Army records he is stated as being born in Glasgow, but I cannot find any record of this. Then on the 1881 census in Perth he is stated as being born in Ireland?? His name is John Whiteman and he married an Emily Morgan in 1859 in Manchester. He then married an Elizabeth Adams in 1877/1878 in St Pancras London. I would be most obliged if you could find anything at all on this man! Also, if you have time Emily Whiteman, nee Morgan, must have died approx 1875-1877, could you possibly search for her death? Many thanks Regards Lynne

Mary Thank you so much, absolutley brilliant. Did note the comment, 'not born Somerset' for James did it say where because I've always been led to believe it was. Note your comment on Kingdon, this has always been a problem. Will sort it eventually.... Regards David

Mary Report 30 Aug 2006 23:38

Hi David Thought you might be pleased with the result!! The 1841 census only shows if a person was born in County or not, does not even show where in the county they were born, also no relationship to the Head is shown. Trouble with anecdotal family history it is often incorrect.!!! Regards Mary

Hi Mary Thanks again. Got mixed up with James and John, James came from Marnhull, Dorset. As far as I am aware John and Jane ended up with 15 children the last 26 years after the first and when Jane was about 43, and people think they have a hard time these days, especially as benefits are available now! Thought my mum's family was doing well with 12. She's the grand daughter of Sidney. He died aged 91, 47 years a member of Wyke Regis Working Mens Club. I've kindly been given his Army documents on Vellum, he was in the Boer war, took his wife to South Africa that was where my gran was born. Thought you might like a little insight. David

Hi Mary Thanks for your kind offer. Can you please look up Ancestry for James Winterburn born Guiseley 1782 marriage in 1802 to Mary Marshall born Otley 1783 and also Census 1841, 1851, 1861 entries for the family. Regards...Lyne

Mary Report 1 Sep 2006 12:29

Lyne I am sorry but there is no trace on 1841 census of James and Mary Winterburn. I assume you found the marriage on IGI but such an early marriage means that all children will have moved from the family home. You will have to go to Parish registers to identify their children, unfortunately Pariash registers on Ancestry are almost non existant outside London and I am therfore unable to help you with any lookups. A quick look at 1851 census shows hundreds of Winterburns in Yorkshire. Mary

Hi Mary I'll start on this and work backwards. Hope it's not too much trouble. For 1871 is it possible to look to see if there are any references for Cook or Cooke, that have a link with Ockbrook/Borrowash, Derbys. I don't require those for Ockbrook itself as I've done all those. If not many of these could you check 1861 as well please. Popular male names are John, William, Samuel, Thomas, Reuben, George & Charles females tend to Elizabeth, Mary & Hannah. Brief detail will do as it will give me something to work on. Kind regards & many thanks David
