Thanks for your offer of lookups for 1841 + census. I need to find info about my great great grandfather Alfred Robert Gale. I believe the family were from Sussex, possibly the Chichester area. All I have is that he was a soldier in 1900 at the time of my g-grandfather's marriage. I have been unable to find any record of him prior to this. My G-grandfather was William Richard Stevens Gale. Born c1880. Can't find any record of his birth either! Do know he had a sister called Mary living in Chichester in the 1930's. William married Rebecca AnnYoung in 1900 in Sculcoates, Kingston Upon Hull. On the 1901 census, Rebecca is living with her mother . I assume William was away at sea as I know he spent most of his working life this way. William was also known as 'Paddy' so there may be an Irish connection. I just seem to come up against dead ends everywhere so even any ideas about where to look next would be gratefully received. Thanks again, Debra.

Hi Pen, Thank you for the Stricklands. I think that John Key at 14 is not likely to be the boyfriend - lol. Were you successful in getting a porker to fatten up for christmas, in your back yard? Don't give it a name or it will become a pet and then you will have to go the whole hog and put a lead on it to take for walks. On a more serious note, I have a new cousin via the neice of my great grandfather so the addiction can be fed again. George Henry Campbell was born in Manchester in Sep Qtr 1865. By 1881 he is working for his uncle (Benjamin Tattersall) in Bradford. To help me find this family connection please can you look up the 1871 census for George. Many thanks, David
