Thanks Sue, All 4 Swanson's are mine, and Janet Webster (I didn't know about her husband). The rest of the names I will keep same and investigate, thanks! Names I'm also after are George Webster b 1786 and his wife Helen Mowat or Mouat b1792 (but I don't think you found a Mowat), who did die at New Deer, Gookhill (Gowkhill) or west Gookhill.. Their children, Alexander b 1819 Margery b1822 John b1824 Ann b1826 Janet (Jessie) b c1827 and James 1831. You have found me George Webster's sister Janet b 1788 (and her husband William Hunter). George's other siblings were John b1790 Margaret b1792 Isabel b1794 James b1798 and William b1801. I'm not sure if they were in New Deer or not. The rest of the Mowat family I would expect in Methlick. Alexander Mowat c 1750 and Marjory Porter, c1750. Their children, George c1780, Marjory c 1782, Alexander c1784, William c1786, John c1788, James c1790. (And Helen who should be in New Deer) Thanks for your help! Fiona

Isn't it great when you find these inscriptions! Are these the ANEFHS booklets? I have them, in fact got loads of them now, and also the Black Kalendar - showing who had been hung in Aberdeen! I also got 4 books on people who had died in ARI and apparently there is or was an archives office in Grampian Health Board! Need to check this out as it's possible to get info from the medical records providing they're more than 100 years old

Alexander, 23/8/1855, 41, Labourer, 2 Park lane, Abdn, d.29/8/1855 If this one is yours, then the death cert will show details of all his children and whether they're alive or not - lots of info on all the 1855 certs James, 29/111841, 35, Joiner, Abdn, 17/12/1841 Mrs, 31/12/1839, 50, Abdn, 3/1/1840 - (several where just Mrs.!) None in book 3 David Ruxton Mennie, 16/3/1882, 20yrs, Factory, res. 30 Link St, Aberdeen, died same day That last one could have been an accident - if so then bet there's a story in the paper! Central Library in Aberdeen have all the Abdn Journal on Fiche - that's where I found Keith's info. Of course, these are only the ones who died there - if they were discharged then that should be in the Archives in Grampian Health Bd

Woody's Report 3 Jun 2006 22:15

No Keith, all we've got on her is the death date on the headstone (John Knox) and the rest of the details on it. Also in 1841 got her on the census next door in Gerrard St to John Troup and Eliz Allen, but think you've got that. Found Alexander Troup on the 1841 Census working in Forgue - think I gave you those details? if you haven't got that let me know and I'll look it up, think I've got it in your FTM file

Woody's Report 3 Jun 2006 22:27

I think I have a few Ellon way, and of course they will have info on the surrounds as well. We tend to forget the libraries and yet who better for this info! I lived in Inverness for 38 years and only discovered last Sunday how much info they have there - apparently, there are rooms dedicated to records of the past. have got some Skye ones so will look there but my husband's lot are all Banff or Aberdeen and shires and so many more of them! His Methlick ones are all Moirs or married to's and some of them in Tarves as well. Mind you, got loads of them - could do a tree on them alone! I've got the Tarves booklet and found several of them there, and also another one about life in Tarves but only skimmed through that one.
