Hi Jane , thanks for the offer. Could you try to find John Smith on the 1861. He would have been about 12, his father was Joseph,( a watch maker I think) and mother Jane. John was born in Coventry . Sue

Walter Report 30 May 2006 18:18

Hi Jayne, Help please if you can. I'm looking for the Hammill family in Yorkshire in 1861. Probably in the Featherstone or Methley location. Head of family would be Samuel (a miner), present info indicates he would be aged between 35 & 50 with a son called Thomas aged 10/11. Thanks in anticipation >>> Walter

Kate Shaw

Kate Shaw Report 30 May 2006 16:56

Hi again Jane, please would you help me with another look up? I'm looking for James and Elizabeth Shaw in 1841 and 51. In 1861 their ages were given as 55 and 54 respectively. They were born in Oldham but living in Ashton Under Lyne then so I would expect them to be in 1 of those place in '41 and '51. The family must also have lived in Lees at some time which is nearby. In 1861 they had children Mary 27, Sarah 25 and Robert 16 with them, all born in Oldham. I'm fairly sure they also had a son James who was 21 in '61. I hope that is enough info to find them - I know Shaw was a common name in that area and lots of them seemed to be called James!! Many thanks for your help Kate

Thanks for that Jane. As Pateley Bridge is only the district the village could easily be close by. I will go and study the map - it looks quite hopeful. Frances
