Emma I think you are going to need the marriage cert to find her it should give her age and fathers name they are really handy when looking for people in censuses. You may have to look through GRO registers as cannot see it on BMD Here is Victors birth Births Sep 1911 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BROADLEY Victor MMN: Twells Nottingham 7b 909 There are a few Mary Twells in 1901 but without knowing age kind of hard to know which one is her!! Hi Zoe, This ones been driving me crazy for over a year, had a few people on GR looking, but no luck. My Gt Grandfather James Longhurst b:18/02/1863, Bethnal Green. Married Amy Webster 4th Sept 1882 Bethnal Green. (Have certs) Had 9 kids, Amy 1884, James 85, Ethel 87, Benjamin 88, George 1890, William 92, Florrie 95, Dorothy 97, John 1900. I have him on every census as a zinc worker, execpt 1901. His wife and family are there on 1901in Plover Street, Hackney but not him. His wife is down as married not widowed. I have tried all siblings. Someone suggested Boer War, but his last child was born in 1900. I havn't found a death for him either. Can YOU help please. Marie

Hi Zoe, I am looking for a Edward Carruthers. I have his marriage cert. 1879 married to Emily Ellaby, he was 20 then and his fathers name was Robert. Edward was a boiler maker and Robert was a grocer then. The mariage took place in Hulme Manchester. I also have Edward on the 1881 with Emily in Manchester and it says he was born there. My mystery is i cant find him before these dates can you help? Regards Cheryl

Zoe, My mystery man isGeorge Taylor. I have him pegged from 1881 census onwards, but it is his previous life that is a problem. According to the 1881 census he was born in 1854, but each census after that has a different date, so it between 1851 and 1854. He also says that he is born in Shooters Hill Kent. He married Louisa Blagdon in 1878 and the marriage cert says that his father was also George Taylor and he was a gardener. The witnesses to the marriage were Fanny and George Taylor. That is all I know, I have been searching for years for this mans family. I don't know where or when he died either. Jan in Oz.

Hi Zoe There are only 4 names on the GRO for that Quarter. I have checked and the other two names and they did marry. So that only leaves Thomas and Mary. I have them Married on the 1881 census. with Children. Thomas Maddison. Head Born abt 1857. Sunderland. Mary Maddison. Wife, Born abt 1857. Gateshead. Robert Maddison, Son Born 1880, Sunderland. Thomas Maddison, Son Born1878, Sunderland. From the 1861 census I think I have Ann Weims Born 1832. As Marys Mother. Also Ann Born 1854, as Marys Sister. I sent for the cert in the name of Thomas Maddison (twice) With no luck. I think the problem may lay in the spelling of the name! ie, Whyms, weims, weymes, On the 1871 census it is spelt Weymess. Elaine It is easier to trace family members backward instead of forward, All I can suggest is searching through the GRO records these are the registers for Births Marriages and Deaths. You can do this free at Ancestry dot co dot uk(replace dot with .) On main page below name search to right there is a England & Wales BMD INDEX BETA use that to look at the pages of the GRO records. To find the details you want will probably take alot of patience Good Hunting Zoe

Hi Zoe, I have a George Kennedy that I can't find after 1861. He was born 17/11/1848 in Ennis, Ireland and he is on the 1861 census, living with his grandparents in Broadmayne, Dorset. George Burt 72 Broadmayne (head) Carpenter Elizabeth 68 Tincleton, Dorset (wife) George Kennedy 13 Ennis, Ireland (grandson) Carpenter His parents and family are in Stepney, London and he does not appear on any census with them. The only George Kennedy I can find in 1881 is a Railway Porter, so it probably isn't him. Any help would be much appreciated. Regards Mary
