Jessie aka Maddies mate Report 10 Mar 2006 19:34

Zoe I have my G/G/Grandma born Florence Young in Sheffield in 1872c, in 1892 she had my G/grandfather Samuel Young Westwood and later that year married the father my G/G/Grandfather Samuel Westwood born 1872 in Sheffield. I have traced the Westwood side of the family but got stuck with Florence. I can't find her birth or her on any census before her marriage in 1892, thinking of sending for her marriage cert to confirm her Fathers name but any help you could give would be appreciated Regards Joanne

Zoe, I'm trying to find my brother Gary who my dad adopted from my mothers previous marriage. Her name is Dorothy Hickman and at the time we lived near Cannock Chase in Staffordshire. Gary is about 37 and I believe he worked in the Navy at some point (maybe still does). Not sure where to start looking as we are Buttle, mum was Hickman then remarried to Bull but don't know name of Gary's father. Can you give me any pointers????

Yes, thanks. I'm looking for the father of my GGG Grandfather. On his marriage certificate it says his name is William Taylor and that he is a stonemason, yet when I look in any census all the way from 1851 I cannot find a Wiliam Taylor of the correct age and occuption with the exception of one that has a nine year old son with the same name as my great-great-grandfather. Here is the information. Henry Taylor b. abt 1821 in Wigan. He lived there as far as I can tell until he died. I guess this would make his father born around 1795 to 1800 possibly also in Wigan. Henry is shown in the 1841 census married to his first wife Margaret, but no William Taylor that I can link. Since I cannot find any parents I don't know siblings names to try to connect with parents ANy suggestions? Thanks again, Denise

Liz Report 11 Mar 2006 00:04

My mother was fostered and never knew she had any siblings. I've found them on the 1901 census for Hertford, have found their births but can't find any marriages or deaths. Names are: Fanny Wood nee Adams b 1868. (mother) Children: Lily Wood Adams b 1888 Ware Rose Annie b 1891 Ware George William b 1892 Ware Phyllis Amelia J b 1897 Hertford Daisy Mildred b 1899 Hertford Gertrude May b1905 Hertford I believe Fanny married George William Wood in Dec. quarter 1890, in Wandsworth. Lily was obviously born before they were married. Also on Gertrude's birth cert. Fanny is a widow . My mother was born in 1907 so clearly George was not her father. It has occured to me that maybe Fanny was not the mother of Gertrude and Beatrice(my Mother) although she is named on their birth certs, but Lily might have been. Fanny would have been 37 and 39 when she had her last two children, which seems a bit odd as she was a widow. I believe Gertrude may also have been fostered which is why I suspect they may have been Lily's. What do you think? Why can't I find marriages or deaths for any of them? If you can throw any light on this mystery I shall be eternally grateful, thanks in advance, Liz

Hi Zoe, If your looking for a mystery this is defo one. I am looking for my Great Grandfather, James Hawkins died 12/11/1948 aged 77 he was born 14/12/1870(found that from a birthday book of my Nan's) He married my Great Grandmother Rosa Twyman 4/8/1917 aged 47. His father on the marriage cert was Henry Andrew Hawkins an Engine Driver. I can't find any reference to James or his father any where was always told he was from Strood in Kent. On the marriage cert it also says his father was deceased and another old story says he went to sea at 13 when his father died and his mother died a few years later of a broken heart. If you have any ideas this would be much appreciated. Many thanks for your offer Zoe

Tracey Where have you looked have you looked through the GRO records for marriages and deaths? Now do you have any of the birth certs as these would tell you parents names and should have an address the parents were registered at time of birth. Now once you have this address you can do a Electoral roll lookup for that address and see who was living there.~don't have access sorry Hope this helps Zoe

Zoe Strange one looked through all the James Hawkin* orn 1870 +/-2 in the 1881 census to see if any had a father called Henry no sign of your guy! You have his marriage cert what was his job and address at time of marriage. Now I only seem to be able to find one Henry Andrew Hawkins and he is a Baker and no son called James Arrgghhh And based on the birth date you gave there are only two births for that name one in Berkshire and another in Islington yours is not the one in Berkshire found him no James with them! Couldn't find the one born Islington Zoe
