Sue Firstly do you have her in the 1901 census with her husband as this should tell us where she was born. How do you know she was born Peckham/Camberwell? What were the details on the marriage cert for both parties please. What did it state her fathers job was on cert or was he deceased? Need to know this so I can ensure I'm on the right track. Zoe

Denise Have you got the 1841 census details? ~ I don't have access to them at moment this may help. You may find his parents on this. Now are you also wanting Henry in following censuses or are you saying you want to go back further? Where have you looked for William? I presume you have these from the IGI Henry's siblings THOMAS TAYLOR Male -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Event(s): Birth: 02 AUG 1818 Christening: 04 OCT 1818 Wigan, Lancashire, England Death: 25 AUG 1821 Burial: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parents: Father: WILLIAM TAYLOR Mother: REBECCA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Then you have Henrys details ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ MARTHA TAYLOR Male (Wonder why a Martha is down as male?!?) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Event(s): Birth: 13 SEP 1822 Christening: 01 JAN 1823 Wigan, Lancashire, England Death: Burial: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parents: Father: WILLIAM TAYLOR Mother: REBECCA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Then they had another son called thomas now in 1841 he should be just 15/16 maybe still with parents! THOMAS TAYLOR Male -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Event(s): Birth: 13 MAR 1825 Christening: 31 JUL 1825 Wigan, Lancashire, England Death: Burial: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parents: Father: WILLIAM TAYLOR Mother: REBECCA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Could this be a possiblity for Rebecca's birth? REBECCA LAWSON Female -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Event(s): Birth: 26 APR 1793 Christening: 05 MAY 1793 Wigan, Lancashire, England Death: Burial: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parents: Father: EDWARD LAWSON Mother: REBECCA KAYE Get back to me and will do all I can to help Zoe

Neil Have looked and looked all I can suggest is going through the christian names of children at familysearch.org as they have free 1881 census there and hopefully finding one family with the right names ~ this is time consuming but when things get on your nerves drastic measures need to be taken LOL. Good luck hope you find them but the head likes to change his age that is why I said try to find the children ~ they must be badly mistranscribed somewhere. Zoe

Thanks so much. 11 Sept. 1858 at Haigh Chruch (I believe St. Davids according to the source I got the photo copy from in the 1980's) Henry Taylor 36 wid Stonemason Residence at time of Marriage; Aspull Father: William Taylor stonemason Jane Winrow 27 spinster no profession Residence at time of marriage: Haigh Father: Henry Winrow collier witnesses: Faith Winrow James Winrow. 1851 Census for Wigan- Here his first wife is still alive. Millgate: Henry Taylor Head mar 30 stonemason Wigan Margaret wife mar 31 Westhoughton William son u 3 Wigan John son u 1 Wigan William Lawson Uncle u 64 watchman Leigh. I did go to the IGI and found a William Taylor Married to Rebecca Lawson in 1813 at St Peter, Bolton Le Moors, Lanc. but I don't know how close this is to Wigan. Also a Henry Taylor born 1/09/1820 in Wigan to William Taylor and Rebecca. The name Rebecca also is carried down to a daughter by the second marriage, Margaret Rebekah. I have tracked the names of the children from both marriges from a book my aunt gave me that has recorded all of the birth dates. I can find no William Taylor in any census, nor a Rebecca (Rebekah) either. So, where do I go from here? Thanks, Denise

Thanks for looking Zoe. I have trawled the death indexes between 1881 and 1891 and found no trace of a death for either Margaret CAUDLE or her youngest son. I feel it is unlikely that they went abroad as she would surely have taken both sons with her. Her sister Emma was also a widow, working as a laundress, so not much wealth there! I haven't yet applied for William Henry Snr's death certificate but hopefully that may shed some light! I suspect that either Margaret remarried, although I can find no trace of that either, or she was 'living in sin' and took her partner's name. Anyway I am grateful for your efforts on my behalf. Kind regards Evie

Hi Zoe Am stuck on the following: Margaret Emily RUSSELL born 1849 in Peckham, Camberwell Surrey married Walter Henry CAUDLE in 1877 in Camberwell. They had 2 sons: Walter Henry Caudle born 1879 in Dulwich, Camberwell and William Alfred CAUDLE born 1880 also in Dulwich. The father Walter Henry died in 1881 but I can find no trace of either Margaret or the younger son William after the 1881 census when she and her 2 sons were living with her sister Emma LAKER. In 1891 the elder son Walter is still living with his aunt but there is no sign of Margaret or her younger son! I would be very grateful if you could shed any light on this! Many thanks Regards Evie

Hi Zoe Thanks for your help. I think I got so caught up in trying to find out where Thomas was born in Wales & thinking that none of them came from Sedgley, I forgot Mary always says place of birth Sedgley, Have possible record of birth will send for it to confirm mother maiden name. It really helps when someone has a fresh pair of eyes on a subject. Thankyou.
