Thanks again Jane I'm getting stuck now on another branch of my tree. My grandfather George Boak died in 1967 but I dont know where he was born, I know he lived in Pennsylvania & came back over here when his dad died. How can I find out where he was born so I can at least start this branch of my tree?? There is no one to ask either which makes it difficult! I think he was born in 1908 so the Census doesnt help, can you suggest anything? Well you did say you were bored!!! Thanks Deb

Jane

Jane Report 2 Jan 2006 17:56

Deb, lol, you've got me with that one !!! my first suggestion is keep checking FreeBMD, they are starting to put on later records now, have had a quick look but latest 1 at the minute is June 1901, Carlisle, for a George Ruddick Boak. other than that, try one name studies, being a very unusual surname helps, somebody there might be able to help you. Have you seen his death certificate? a birthplace or DOB might be given. does his marriage certificate name his father? i don't really know what else to suggest for you, am having trouble myself with having an irish ?x great grandparent, am quite glad now that he wasn't from pennsylvania, lol Jx

Hi Jane Could you please look in 1861 census for William and Sarah Clarke. They had 2 sons that I know of. William born c1856 and James born c1857. I have both William and James on 1891 census for Penicuik, Scotland which gives their birthplace as Kent, England. Thanks Jeanette
