Jane Report 3 Jan 2006 15:23

Mary, i'm afraid the census in 1901 was taken before John's birth in September, so he wont be on it. Do you know his parents names, that i could look up?

Jane Report 3 Jan 2006 15:34

Deb, i thought perhaps they were orphans, which is why they were in the workhouse, not going to help you find their parents though is it !! i'm just going to have a look on 1861 for you, that might show us something................................. be right back Jx right this looks like your Thomas: Deaths Sep 1871 ------------------------- Brodie Thomas 7 S.Shields 10a 500 so that rules him out any further now, do you have William & James in 1891 /1901? .............................................................. 2nd update................ looks promising: 1861 Agnes Broady abt 1833 Scotland Head Hedworth, Monkton and Jarrow Durham ( widow ) Jane Broady abt 1857 Haden, Northumberland, England Daughter Hedworth, Monkton and Jarrow Durham William Broady abt 1859 Haden, Northumberland, England Son Hedworth, Monkton and Jarrow Durham Peter Crerar abt 1839 Scotland Boarder Hedworth, Monkton and Jarrow Durham

Deborah Report 3 Jan 2006 17:07

Hi I thank you once again for your help! William Brodie was my Grandfathers grandfather, I have him & James in 1881 living with the Blacket family as their nephews, not sure of the family connection there. I have William married in 1891 & 1901 but nothing of James yet!! I noticed the change of spelling with the name from Broady to Brodie which may be why I got stuck!! Thanks again Deb

John Report 3 Jan 2006 17:13

Hello Jane, Could you please look in the1861 census for Lancs, most likely Liverpool /Toxteth Park area for Robert Whiteside aged about 22 a Carter Thanks in advance John

Jane Report 3 Jan 2006 17:21

Deb, i'll let you into a little secret................ tried saying Brodie with a Geordie accent, & voila, Broady !!!!! can't find a marriage for Agnes & Mr Brodie though, and no record of a death for Agnes Brodie or Broady. there is a record of births for both James & William though on FreeBMD, in South Shields. if it was me i'd send for Williams, just to confirm Agnes & get Mr Brodies name too, who i should then be able to get for you in 1851, have looked for Agnes already, but don't think she is a Brodie yet . .............................................................. 1891, 62 palmer terrace, wallsend, northumberland Brodie, James, 28 driller, b. jarrow, durham Brodie, mary, 20, Howden ........................................................................ OR 1891 17 Hardman st, linthorpe, Middlesboro Brodie, James, 27, ships yd, refitter?, durham Mary Ann 28 middlesboro Mark wm 6 ' James 4 '

Jane Report 3 Jan 2006 17:30

Hi John there are dozens of Robert Whitesides in Lancs, but none in Liverpool area, also would he be married? have found the best age wise is married to a Margaret but is an ag lab, as opposed to a carter. if he was still with parents, do you know their names or siblings names so i can narrow them down a bit for you? thanks Jane

Deborah Report 3 Jan 2006 17:50

Hi Jane I will send off for birth certificate for William & see what it says, I started doing my family tree (four branches of it!!) this time last year & have loads of help from people like yourself & I think without this help I would have given up long ago!! Thanks Deb

Jane Report 3 Jan 2006 17:56

You're very welcome Deb............... i find its nice just to get a fresh pair of eyes to look at it, believe me... i 've had problems with my lot !!! let me know if you get the certificate won't you, and we'll have another look, good luck, fingers are crossed....... jane x

John Report 3 Jan 2006 19:22

Hello Jane, Thanks for looking for Robert Whiiteside. I have him in 1851, living at home in Toxteth Park, with his parents Thomas aged 47 and Mary aged 46 along with other bros .and sisters and I also have him in 1871, married and living with his wife Anne and family also in Toxteth Park. However he does not appear to be at home with his parents in 1861 and I was curious to know where he might have got to and what other leads that might give me. However, as you say with so many possibilities, it is unlikely that the right one will jump out at you. Thanks again for trying. Regards John

Jane Report 3 Jan 2006 20:31

Hi John, have had another look for you................ but still nothing i'm afraid. sorry Jane

mary Report 3 Jan 2006 20:43

Hi Jane, many thanks for getting back to me. As far as I know John's mothers name was Maryann Maggs nee King born and married in Bristol, hope this helps. regards mary

Jane Report 3 Jan 2006 20:54

Hi again Mary, i'm just trying to sort this one out for you................ have had alook on 1901 for a Mary maggs, but there's loads in Bristol. do you know roughly how old she would be? i'm also in the middle of searching for her marriage, 1. to get husbands name to narrow it down, 2. to double check i'm looking for the right surname. do you have any details on husband? or did John have older siblings do you know? ........................................ UPDATE.......... getting there... Marriages Jun 1901 KING Mary Ann Bristol 6a 124 MAGGS William Bristol 6a 124 so doubt they'll be together in 1901 census, but be right back............ no, sorry, doesn't look like they're together.............. probably married just after census too. so all you can do now is to get the fathers names off the marriage certificate, and hopefully they would have given their ages too, there is just too many William Maggs and Mary Kings in Bristol to just guess which they are i'm afraid, sorry.................... Jane

Julie Report 3 Jan 2006 22:02

Hi again Thanks for looking up my John Davies in Wales lol lol....... I thought it would probably be like looking for a needle in a haystack. I think I'll leave that one for now. However if you wouldn't mind looking up the name Snell from Chester. Im looking for a Charles Snell who would be born c1800 or a George Snell who was probably his son? Many thanks Julie

Jane Report 3 Jan 2006 22:23

mary Report 3 Jan 2006 22:26

Hi Jane, really appreciate all this!! All I know is her name Maryann King and she died in 1941 and I have been told she was 61 years old when she died, so that would make her born in 1880 I think...John William Maggs was her son and I think he was the eldest but not really sure, he did have siblings but I think they were younger, any help...thank you for all your help regards mary
