Kelly, my records only go up to 1920, and there is no records of a marriage (other than the one to Elizabeth) before that.

Bev, I've been looking for the John Lock marriage, and found one to a Jane Randle. She's a servant in 1871, in Clifton Gloucestershire. I'm not sure how they're related. OOOhhhh!! 1891 Lane, Charles H abt 1847 Llanigan, Breconshire, Wales Head Holy Cross and St Giles Shropshire Lane, Mary abt 1848 Warpole, Somerset, England Wife Holy Cross and St Giles Shropshire Lane, Charles C abt 1876 Huntspil, Somerset, England Son Holy Cross and St Giles Shropshire Lane, Rose E abt 1878 Wenvoe, Glamorgan, Wales Daughter Holy Cross and St Giles Shropshire Lane, Sydney A abt 1882 Glasbury, Radnorshire, Wales Son Holy Cross and St Giles Shropshire Births Sep 1875 LANE Charles Cuthbert Bridgwater 5c 390 Charles Snr is a Coachman. 1881 Charles Lane abt 1847 Llanigon, Breconshire, Wales Head Mary Lane abt 1848 Warpole, Somerset, England Wife Charles C. Near Ilchester and Ilminster. Most likely comes under Yeovil district. Ohh - I think it's Crewkerne! That comes under Chard.

Tracy Thanks for the help. I am glad its not just me that is confused by this family. Perhaps I will have more luck when I get back the marriage cert. for Benjamin Ward and Mary Sharp. The dates all seem a bit off to me maybe there is some sort of family coverup. If you come across any more information to help I would be most grateful. regards kathy

Bev Report 1 Nov 2005 09:19

Thanks again for your help, Tracy, I'm really grateful. His marriage was definitely 1896 to Sarah Baker Wilson. That and the 1901 census info is all I can be absolutely sure about. I'm beginning to think I'll never find him. I think the birth must be Crewkerne but I couldn't find it. Bev

☼ Orangeblossom ☼ - Tracy Report 1 Nov 2005 09:23

Bev, I'm still looking :) How annoying that he's nowhere before 1901. I'm wondering if he was illegitimate, and his mother married after he was born, which is why we can't find him on the censuses. Charles Lane, Coachman is a popular person, as you can see from the few I found lol

Bev

Bev Report 1 Nov 2005 09:44

If a child was illegitamate wouldn't he have taken the mother's name?I've got no hope in finding him when the 1911 census comes out either as he left his children after his wife died (around 1906) as was said to have 'run away to London!' Bev

☼ Orangeblossom ☼ - Tracy Report 1 Nov 2005 09:52

Yes, but if she married after he was born, he would have taken that name in the next two censuses. She might've been the Lane. So when he came to marry, he reverted back to her name. I have quite a few who did that. Still doesn't explain why there's no birth record for him, but it may be that he was never registered. It wasn't compulsory till 1875.

Bev

Bev Report 1 Nov 2005 10:11

On his marriage certificate it states his father was Charles Lane, deceased, coachman. It seems strange that theres's no birth record nor does he appear on previous census records which does indicate he had another name. I don't know where to go from here with this:( Bev

Cath, I can't see them either. They may have gone back to Scotland. There were a few matches for their names, but I can't check them.

Tracey Some input would be great, I'm looking for James McPherson in the 1851 census. He was born in Woolwich 1824 and was married to Mary Ann Russell in April 1849 in North Cray. Their first child, Frederick, was born in the 2nd quarter 1850 in the district of Bexley. I don't have their precise location so they could have been in Bexley, North Cray, Woolwich or Plumstead, but all under Kent. Good Luck Regards Roy
