No promises, but I'll have a look to see what I can do. Please post here, and I'll answer in order. I can look at censuses 1861-1901 and a few 1841. I also have BMDs from 1866-1920. England & Wales only. NO PMs Please.

I don't know if you can throw any light on the life and times of my great grandmother, Ann Maria Coley (also known as Annie, Hannah and Maria and as Cowley and Cawley). I have pieced together most of her story, supported by appropriate certificates, but I would like to work out what happened to her first husband. She married Thomas Halford in 1874, just before her 17th birthday and in the 1881 census they were living in Margate, Kent with their baby daughter, Ann Maria. When they married Thomas's age was given as 23 and he was born in Claverdon, Warwickshire according to the 1881 census. By 1885 she was living with my great grandfather James Sherwood with another daughter, Emily Elford Sherwood. (I wonder if the 'Elford' was supposed to be 'Halford' but the Registrar got it wrong). I can't find a suitable death for Thomas between 1881 and 1885 and wonder if he is on the 1891 census? 'Hannah Maria Cawley' married James Sherwood in 1893.

Sorry Brian, the only other place I can find him in 1861 - down as Galford, with his Grandfather. His POB there is Tanworth (couldn't see him in 1871 though, unless his mother was Maria). I looked for Halford born Warwick, didn't find him. Then I looked for all Thomas' born Claverdon or Tanworth - didn't find him either. I looked through the deaths and couldn't see anything likely. Perhaps he went abroad? Maybe he was a convict?

Helen. 1871 Elizabeth Durrant abt 1853 Trimley St Mary, Suffolk, England Servant Trimley St Mary Suffolk Elizabeth died or married after 1871. I think florence either married or died after 1881. Unless... 1891 Durrant, Florence abt 1882 Triniley; St Mary, Suffolk, England Servant Clapham London Age could be 19, but there's a big black line through it.

Hi Tracey, Don't know whether you can help. I have a relative baptised Juliane Franzisca Maria Mohr (sometimes anglized to Julia Frances). She married a Julius Stritter in 1875 and had a child Florence Maria Stritter in 1876. I have the certificates. The problem is I can't find a death for either of them. Her husband is on his own on 1881 Census and remarries in 1883. Any help would be very much appreciated. Kind regards, Emily

Hi Tracey Thanks for your very kind offer I am looking for the Mottoul family, they lived in Swansea, Glamorgan. As this name is from Belgium, it is a very unusual name for Wales. I am hoping that there might be some descendants left in Wales. My grand mother was called Lettice Annie Mottoul, her father was Louis Mottoul and her mother was Catherine Mottoul nee Hobbs. Hope you can solve a few mysteries for me, I have found them on the 1901 census, although Louis and Catherine surname was spelt Mattoul. I have the birth of my grandmother/marriage/death but nothing for anyone else. Hope this isn't to much to ask you. Cheers Sheila
