Hi Maureen Yep thats why I thought the 1851 age was right rather than the 1861. I know you could marry at that age but she said she was overage. 15 year olds to day could probably pass for 21 but back then, in a small parish where the vicar probably knew her? I'm definitely going to have to get to Durham some time to sort this line out, but if you could check the details of the 1831 Margaret next week that would be great. Thanks again Jacqui

This site tonight is doing me head in as I keep getting Happy Genes Error and I cannot honestly say I'm not Happy.. Margaret dau of Edward and Margaret Maddison of Pittington, Fathers occupation Pitman... bap 9th October 1853 cos all the rest are William son of Edward and Mary Maddison of Sherburn, Occ Pitman.. bap nov 22nd 1854 William son of Edward and Mary Maddison of Old Sherburn Occ. Pitman... 11th April 1856 William son of Edward and Mary Maddison of Pittington Occ. Pitman.. 9th Sept 1857 Then manually searched till 1863 no other baptisms listed for this couple Maureen

Thanks for looking Maureen. Were the parents of the 1831 Margaret John and Margaret? Could be her she was 30 on both the 1851 and 1861! I assumed the 1851 was the correct one as she married 'over age' in 1846. Will have to plan a few days break in Durham sometime so I can go to the RO. Thanks again Jacqui

This marriage was solmenized between us Gawen Atkinson (who signs his name) and Ann Ramsay (who makes X her mark). In the presence of Jacob Pile and Wm Ward. (They both sign their names. Well Johnathan what can I say you clever lad !! Just looked and have written all the other down but the date.. I'll check next week but this is how it reads.. 1845. John Coxon Gilson of full age widower and Occ. Collier, residence at the time of marriage Leasingthorne Father John Gilson, Occ. Collier Martha Jane Nicholson aged 20 spinster Occ. Servant residence Leasingthorne Father Ralph Nicholson Occ. Collier He signs his name as John Coxon Gelson she makes X her mark Witnesses Thomas Parkin and Robert Oliver I've done one like this this morning for me.. looking for Ramshaw down as Ramsey on Marriage Father signs as Ramshaw.. Just goes to show.. Maureen

Marcus Smith The baptism's were not at Stella St Cuthbert's there were other Fo(r)sters being baptised there but no John and Agnes If you find anything else or can work out a relevant church for the area.. Let me know Maureen

Maureen Dorothy where were they living on the 1891 Census, If you could supply me with more info
