Karen, that's not an easy one to answer. I would figure out where he was most likely to be imprisoned, and start with the courts there. Some local archive centres will hold this information as well. Are you sure he wasn't born in GB? He may have been registered under another name, or just mis-transcribed. It could also be out on the year. Not everyone told the truth on their marriage certs about their ages.

Here's one Tracy I want to find my g-g-grandfather's second marriage, that is to my g-g-grandmother. No luck so far Arthur Henry WINFIELD and Ellen Ann BURROUGHS. They were both born in Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk in 1829. He married a Sarah Betts in Bury in 1850. He and Sarah appear in the 1851 Census in Bury. Then Ellen appears on my g-grandfather's birth certificate in London in 1858. In the meantime no sign of Sarah's death or the second marriage. Any help greatly appreciated!! Jane

Sue, there are quite a few Baldwins and loads of Daniels in those areas between 1901 and 1911. I would be unable to tell you which is yours without first names. Best get ordering certs ;)

Not so much find out just trying to pick brains to be honest, am not sure if I am 'missing' a Joseph in Yorkshire around that time. Don't think his father would have changed from being a cloth dresser to a carpenter!

Tracy if you can find Harry Davies for me in any census I'll share my lottery winnings with you (that'll be when I win something). Here goes Harry Davies married 1916 aged 40 (have marriage cert). Married Annie Ainsworth in Blackpool, Lancashire. Harry Davies (the same one) died 1950 aged 67. (have death cert). Year of birth for Harry according to these certs is between 1876-1883!!!!!!!!!!!!! Marriage cert details- father Alfred Davies occup baker/confectioner. Occupation for Harry on marriage cert is baker/confectioner, it also gives Private no for the war. Harrys' daughter my gran is still alive at the ripe old age of 85 but unfortunately doesn't know (or not saying) anymore details than what I've given apart from the one thing she remembers is that Harrys family ie his father Alfred had a bakers shop in Manchester area. She never met her grandparents. She seems to remember that Harry (her dad) got a girl 'in trouble' and his family disowned him. Have searched endlessy on census' records but come up with nothing that links Harry to Alfred. Have also tried war records but you probably know that a lot of them are destroyed. This is your challenge to find Harry and Alfred Davies. Good luck Marie

Linda, I had a look through my (very limited) 1841 census, but I couldn't find your Joseph. There is definitely only on on the 1861, but I don't know if that helps oyu at all.
