hey Dawn, Thanks very much. Could you give me the link for where you ordered these discs from, as I would find them very useful. I definately believe that was my James, quite excited now. Could you see if there is a marriage between a James Marr and a Margaret Grant. and also a marriage of the same James Marr to Margaret Thomson. Would assume they marriages were in either, Midlothian, East Lothian or West Lothian. James first child I believe was born in 1818. I have come to the theory he married twice, which is the reason for the two names above. thanks, Siobhan

Sorry to be cheeky. But could you also look for a birth of Peter Shiells in East Lothian I assume, dob unknown, but I would guess about 1765. Then also the birth of James Marr born c1819 in Prestonpans, East Lothian. regards, Siobhan

Hi Dawn Thank you so much for finding my 'lot'. Elizabeth remains elusive so will have to keep plugging away. Oh what fun! Would you mind looking for another one for me please. Looking for the marriage of James Anderson and Janet Anderson in Kirriemuir, Angus. I am not sure of the date but would think it could be anywhere from 1810 - 1835. I am especially looking for their daughter Susan Anderson born c 1828-33 in Kirriemuir, Angus. Thanks again for your help. Carla

Hi Dawn, I would be most grateful if you were able to locate a David Turnbull Stewart (sometimes just known as David Stewart) born 1825. The census lists his birthplace as simply 'Scotland', but I suspect near Edinburgh, or else Dundee. His mother, as on the tomb in Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne, is Isabella Stewart Turnbull, born circa 1801 'Scotland'. What gets difficult is family legend says the father is also a David Stewart, but the Newcastle Courant paper of the time lists her death as being the wife of David Turnbull, so I'm stumped there, and am still trying to get to the bottom of the mystery! David the father had a sister Ellen, born 1831. I don't know if she was Turnbull or Stewart, but I suspect the same Edinburgh/Dalmeny area. Best wishes, and many thanks in advance if you're successful! Ian

ANNE FINDLAY Hi again Anne No problem with another look up. Glad to be of help. Though I couldn't find anything for James Findlay, his parents, siblings or whether he and Jane had any children. Not quite what you were looking for but I hope it might be of help. Also on my records Jane was born 1818 and not 1816!!! Hi Dawn, Could you please check for the birth of James Colburn?, c.1819 in Ellon, Aberdeenshire. Also if possible the marriage of his parents, James Colburn and Helen Jeffrey, i can only guess that the marriage may have taken place in Aberdeenshire. I would also be interested in details of any other children born to this couple. Lastly i know that the first James Colburn that i mentioned, married Margaret Scott in Garvock, Kincardineshire in 1838 and could i please ask you to check for children of this couple,(i believe that some may have been born close to Laurencekirk, Kincardineshire). I know that i am asking for quite a lot here, but i would be really grateful if you can help. Many thanks, regards Norman.

Hello Dawn I've had no luck so far in tracing my only Scottish relative. He is Bernard Cochrane a soldier born about 1820's. It is very vague info but its all I have. He was posted to Cork,Ireland and then to Woolwich Barracks in Kent before going to fight in the Crimean war where he died in 1854-56 on active duty. Supposedly a Captain by then. Have had no luck finding him on the 1851 census ,he should be in Greenwich/ Woolwich, kent and he was dead by the 1861 leaving behing his widow plus 3 surviving children. Have had no luck with his Army records at Kew. Children: Hannah Cochrane DOB 1852 Woolwich,Kent Alfred Cochrane DOB 1854 Deptford,Kent Sophia Cochrane DOB 1857 New Cross,Surrey or London. There was another child Stanley who died as an infant. Have included childrens names in case of naming patterns in Scotland. Hope you can help. Best wishes Jenny
