Hi Do you think you could check a birth for me please? James Brindley was born 1943/1844 Nuneaton Warwickshire. His father was Thomas Brindley. His mother would be either Jane Brindley (nee Smedley) or Mary (nee Waters). I am trying to determine if he is a child of the first or second marriage.

Sorry, the above date should read: 1843/44.... definitely not 1943 !!

Lynne Marriage records not that up to date on Ancestry I'm afraid. You'd need to look at 1837 on line to help with that I think. Nikki

Hi Margaret With birth look ups the mothers name is not available on line but it would show the registry entry which would allow you to order the relevant certificate which should clarify things for you. Brian You didn't say which county you wanted me to look in for your family however I've searched Somerset, Gloucestershire, Bristol & Wiltshire for you with no luck. 1861 census shows Margaret as being born in Devon - guess you could try there or they had a son George born 1854 in Fulham, Middlesex. Maybe they'd moved to Middlesex by `51. Sorry I can't help any more. Nikki

Thanks a lot Nikki, I will have to try and work out if there is a connection to George with what you have found for me, after I had posted my request to you I found George in a boys home in Yorkshire along with a few more boys from Somerset, so it looks as if they had all been sent to Yorkshire to work in the mills as the home was connected to a textile mill, they were all aged 14. Thanks for all your trouble Nikki. Liz.. . .

Lilian It's just as well you've asked again as I had totally missed your message!!! Many apologies. Have looked for Lindon/Linden/Lyndon/Lynden's in Stroud with no joy I'm afraid. Are there any other likely spellings? Nikki

Lilian Report 12 Aug 2005 13:35

Hi Nikki, Thanks for your reply. I'm looking for possible parents or family of William J. Linden who, according to crew lists, was born in Stroud in 1858. I suppose his family may have lived somewhere else in 1851 but I don't know where. Do you have a name index for each county? If so, I would appreciate you having another look. Other possible name variations are LANDEN, LENDEN, LONDON. Sometimes the name is transcribed as SINDEN etc. because the fancy L looks like an S. Many thanks, Lilian
