Hi Chris The LMA (London Metropolitan Archives) does hold Parish registers and numerous other documents but very few are name indexed. St.George in the East and Shoreditch are two separate parishes. Can I suggest that you look at the EoLFH (East of London Family History) website as it will give you information on both areas. It also tells you where the various Parish registers for those areas have been deposited and for which years. The LMA website has a catalogue of their holdings which you can access by area. http://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/corporation/family-research/registerSearchForm.asp It’s no trouble Chris, everyone on here will help if they can. Have you looked for Eliza on the LDS website? Have you got the family on the census ? If so an address near a date of birth may help to determine where to look for a baptism. Joan x

Hi Chris Now it’s my turn to sound vague. I’m not exactly sure what it is you want me to look up, or where. The records at the LMA are not name indexed. Is it possible that you could order the birth certificate of Eliza Elliott ? Then you would have the maiden name of her mother to enable you to look for their marriage. Joan x

Hi Joan Sorry if this sounds a bit much but is there a chance you could look through the Bishops Transcripts returns for burials at St Anne Soho from 1830 to 1837 to see if there are any George Coombs burials please, plus any other Coombs burials. Just say if this request sounds a bit too much to ask. Ben

Hi Joan thanks for looking. Yes please as this is becoming a real mystery, because not only cant I find her birth but neither her marriage or first childs birth either. I presumed as the son was born in same place as mother that there was a high possibilty that is/was where the marriage is aswell. This was on 51 census which Im sure holds some clues! 32 King Street, HO 107/1526 f.175 p.33 Isabella Davey, Head, W, 68, b. Scotland Elizth Davey, Daur, U, 29, Tassell Maker, b. London St.Dunstan Jane Twitchin, Daur, W, 38, b. Jersey Elizabeth Davey, Neice, 15, b. Midx St.Lukes I wonder if Elizabeth was born out of wedlock! Then if you look at head of household and two daughters they certainly covered both ends of Britain for birth. The address seems to be between St Lukes hospital and Bartholmew Square. debs

Hi Joan, Just logged on - thanks for the details of LMA Would you be kind enough to look for the details of: JOHN BEELS b. about 1744 St. Marylebone London. Many thanks Ken

Hi Heather It won't be a problem if the records are at the LMA but they might have been deposited with Westminster Archives. Joan x

Hi Nigel I'll look in the Holy Trinity burials for John & Elizabeth Wyeth but if they're not there you might have to get the death certificates. Joan x

Joan, I feel guilty asking, but you are so good at this! You are a superstar. Any chance, if you get time to look up the following marriage between Thomas Jenkins and Harriet Hutton please 1889: Hutton Harriet St Giles 1b 961 Jenkins Thomas St Giles 1b 961 Id be interested particularly in what he puts down as occupation as he seems to shift from one army barracks to another earlier in his life.

Sorry it is me again!! I missed out the original JOHN WYETH and ELIZABETH deaths. Not sure these will be in the same Holy Trinity, I only know they were in Clapham. If not in Holy Trinity don't worry about it. JOHN WYETH d: Mar Quarter 1850 ELIZABETH WYETH d: Mar Quarter 1838 Nigel

Hi Nigel I don’t know all the sources that the LDS use but definitely Parish registers and submissions by members of their church. An entry usually says if it’s been submitted by a church member and sometimes there will be contact information. If you Google for LDS there are various sites that will possibly be more informative. It’s not unusual to find the date of birth in a baptism entry in the Parish register. I’ll get the exact details of those you’ve listed, as they appear in the register. Joan x

Hi Joan, Thanks ever so much for adding me to your list. The details you stated are correct. Here are the other relatives I found on LDS that were baptised at Holy Trinity, Clapham: ANN WYETH b: 13 Nov 1805, bap: 14 Nov 1805, d: 22 Mar 1810 JAMES WYETH b: 12 Oct 1807, bap: 1 Nov 1807, d: 11 Sep 1808 JOHN WYETH b: 6 Jul 1809, bap: 9 Jul 1809, d: Mar Quarter 1864, Ma: Sarah ?Surname before 1834 ELIZABETH WYETH b: 26 Mar 1811, bap: 21 Apr 1811 (Never married, died outside of clapham) FRANCES WYETH b: 21 Feb 1814, bap: 20 Mar 1814, d: 19 May 1815 JOHN WYETH bap: 25 Aug 1833 (Married and died outside of Clapham) ROSE WYETH bap: 26 Mar 1837 (? died Dec quarter 1840) ROSINA WYETH b: 12 Nov 1852, bap: 17 Apr 1853 Do you know were LDS gets their info from as they sometimes have a birthday and sometimes just have the baptism. I always thought parish registers only had baptism and not birthday dates? Thanks again, Nigel Wyeth

Hi Ken The LMA is in Northampton Road, EC1. You can see a list of their holdings by visiting the website http://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/Corporation Then go to online services and scroll down to London Generations. You will then get a drop down menu that allows you to fill in some options and check by area. Hope this is useful Joan x

Hi Nigel I’ll be happy to add you to my list. Have I got this right, you want me to look at Holy Trinity, Clapham for a possible marriage of John Wyeth pre 1805 and for a possibly baptism from 1770-1785. If you want me to check the details of any of those you already have from the LDS let me have the dates and I’ll do that at the same time. Joan x
