Hi Sue, Would you be able to have a look at 15 Hall Car Street in Sheffield for me on the 61 census to see if there is a Preen family there at all. They were there in 71 and headed by a Thomas Preen. Thanks, Matt

Hi Sue I wonder if you could trace a Messenger family living in Almondsbury Huddersfield. In 1841 there was Francis aged 45(his wife Sarah was missing)Abraham(20)and James(20)and they lived in North Gate . There should also be another Abraham Messenger + wife Martha and son James somewhere in Almondsbury. Do you have access to West Ardsley too? Many thanks. Anne

WOW! If you answer all these queries you are going to be at it for days and days!!! IF you have time, do you think you could look for John Sharman in the 1851 census for Hollesley, Suffolk. It was only a small village, so there is no address. I expect him to be about 30 years old, married, a shoemaker and giving his birth place as Sudbourne, Suffolk. Thanks so much and enjoy the rest of your Easter. Trina Balharrie.

Hi Sue Is your offer still open? If so, would you mind looking for my rellies in Barugh Green, Barnsley in 1851 I would expect to see:- Elizabeth Cawthorne age 55 born Overton John Cawthorne age 29 born Cumberworth Sarah Cawthorne age 22 born Clayton West James Cawthorne age 14 born Clayton West I am not sure if Elizabeth's husband John was still alive then, but she was a widow in 1861 Many thanks, but don't worry if you can't manage the time Gordon

Sue Lambrini Smith Report 20 Jun 2005 22:46

hi gordon- i managed to find the relevant area in barnsley. unfortunately the area you need is very badly damaged. i managed to read some of the pages- your family were not there. i could make out 'barugh' and 'gawber' on some of the pages , but not a lot else. i will look on the 1841 in that area, fingers crossed that they were there then. sue.

Gordon Report 21 Jun 2005 01:27

Hi again Sue, Help is very much appreciated. I have the birth certificate for for Ellen Cawthorne, Elizabeth's daughter, who was born 1839 and died 1840 and at that time the family were living in Clayton West, which I believe comes under the Huddersfield area, so I think they could have moved towards Barnsley later than the 1841. I have been unable to find out Elizabeth's husband John's year and place of birth and it must be on the 1851 somewhere as I am fairly sure he was still alive at this time. I have only been looking for this info on and off for the last 20 years!!! Really grateful for your help, although it's not good news that the 1851 is damaged!!!! Gordon
