Linda from Murton Report 26 Aug 2004 08:32

Good Morning Again Linda Family history research is addictive. You would think I would stay in bed in a morning, but no, got my head around the Raymonds again. Would you please be able to look up 31 Double Row, East Murton on the 1871 Census. This will show Mary A. Raymond and her family. I am looking to find out where William H. Raymond, one of her sons, was born. Would love to hear from you. Thank you for your help.

Andrea, they are not in Brunswick Street I'm afraid, they may of course still have been in Tooerton where William was born Linda

Ron, the areas are just too large without more information to pin them down - 1871 Middlesbrough and Gateshead before this, both are very large. Sorry. Linda

Thanks Linda That was really good especially with info about occupations! I thought SMALL was an unusual name and I would have no difficulty but then I found families from Ireland moved into the area in the 1800s and confused the issue, so Elizabeth and co. might belong to me! Interesting that she's a mariner's wife though. Have you got an address for her at all? Thanks again. Jan

Hi Andrea! Thanks for that but now I'm even more confused. Surely at the age of 9 she would be living with parents? Therfore a Mr. Gustard and Mrs. Gustard (possibly the other Jane) Linda I think I need you to clear this up for me but at least we know its Newbottle to look at now! Many Thanks Angela (Keith's daugher)

Angela (Linda, sorry to jump on your thread) Linda may be able to give you an address but I have a booklet of the 1851 census transcription for Newbottle (my village) and there is the following entry: Gustard, Jane also Mary A Duck, Edward Hodgson, Jane Gustard and Elizabeth (Dan) Hope that helps Andrea

Hi again Linda! Another one for you! I have Jane Gustard in 1861 Census. I know you have looked for her in 1871 under Heslop with no luck but could you try 1851 for me. I'm clutching at straws here as I have her grandfather but not her parents. This is what I have. 1861 Census, Houghton le Spring District Family Number: 12951.6 Newbottle 1861 Census, Newbottle Village, North Back Lane William West, Head, widowed, 71, Coalminer, born Sunderland, County Durham Jane Gustard, granddaughter, 19, Housekeeper, born New Durham, County Durham So either in Houghton le Spring or Gillesgate areas please! Thank you so much for your help. Angela (Keith's daughter)

Linda I would be most grateful if you could look up Peter and Jane Ann Green on the 1861 census. Peter would be about 40 and Jane about 48. In 71 and 81 they lived in Brunswick Street Darlington so may be there. There will also probably be a son William T born Tollerton, York and aged about 11 and maybe a daughter Mary Jane who would be about 19. Many thanks
